Maybe I'm missing something about this whole "fake passport" flap, but why can't you just use your real passport? From what I can see, it won't be damaged in any way. Given limited resources for international travel, this is probably my best shot at actually using my passport before it expires.
Now appearing nightly in my basement.

I bought some passport covers off Ebay and copied a few pages out of my passport and stuck them in, they work fine as they are only handled by me.
I had to trim them to fit, but again for the amount of time they are shown they are fine and always ready to go in my case.
