Use to do perform an unlit cig routine on the streets.....but gave it up a couple years ago due to popular demand LOL
Seems cigs are taboo even on the streets. Anyhow, for old times sake.....off the street & in the studio, decided to throw on the old vest & cap and grab some cigs etal. If nothing else, enjoy the music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfTHENEYbgg |

Well done! That's one of the best manipulation routines I've seen in a long time.
Since you never light the cigarette, I think it would be fine to do on the street. Maybe something you can present as "Yet another reason NOT to smoke... It's too difficult" type of thing. You are seriously too good to stop doing it!

Really fun to watch, and I like your taste in music I wonder if you couldn't replace the cig with a short pencil, get a yellow ball, and use one of those small pencil sharpeners instead of a lighter. You could almost do the same routine then. Such a shame you don't do it, it's really fun!

Super cool Max! If you ever get a gig in China you can do a cigaratte act in a kindergarden its totally acceptable.

Warren,
Watching your cigarette work was truly delightful and brilliant. I enjoyed the music immensely and it certainly added to my enjoyment! How did you wind up faring when you appeared on the tv show 'Zoink'd?' I'm also a fan of your shadow coin routine. I hope you don't mind me sharing it guy. |

You could always come out to Colorado, or Washington State, and replace the cigarette with a joint...

So, Max, there's another reason I enjoy your performing so much - such quality!
Did you get told not to do the cig routine in public, or did you just sense it was no longer appropriate? How about dressing the part to fit the routine? That is, don a coat with tails, a top hat, etc. Hmm, most people on the streets wouldn't be aware, as we magicians are, of the magic setting 100 or so years ago. What about using a white stick of chalk, and writing on a small chalkboard at the start or where-ever during the routine. Or pull out a packet of kids candy smokes and use some of those. I saw a packet of those kids smokes a day or two back in a shop, but I think they were sold as just candy sticks in a blue oblong stiff cardboard box.{I think it had an astronaut drawing on the outside of the box.]
The presentation makes the magic.

Thanks for the kind comments lads. To be totally honest, it's a bit rusty with a couple of flashes & telegraphs.
The routine has served me well. Packs real small, props always available, and almost instant rest. Can do it scripted or music. Credit goes to a variety of sources...Slydini, Stone, Kurtz, & me. Use to perform this a lot on the street and at festivals. While I don't smoke & in no way does this promote smoking, I started getting complaints and negative feedback directed towards me concerning any kids who might see it. And this is ON the street not a kids fest. Quite silly IMHO but I eventually relented. @gallagher: thanks, hope the sun returns & German soccer team rules .......@KendallScot: thanks, great to see your pics on Pearl St.....@Herr Brian Tabor: Luv the music also. It's Comptine d'un autre été performed by Harmony Guys.....@Nick W: I'm on my way to China LOL....@Harry Murphy: Thanks Harry, glad you enjoyed....@imgic: lol, now that could be entertaining, especially if lit....@MagiCol: Thanks, kind words & ideas Colin .....@Devious: Thanks Devious. Zoinked worked out most excellent for me. Didn't realize Shadow coins was still listed Cheers All |

Max, thanks for identifying the music. I found a version at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqoqQY_jK3Y
Very enjoyable listening! "Hey," I thought, as I saw the opening to the video - I've got that DVD of that girl. It was of "Amelie", a French film, and one I enjoyed.
