Why is there only one symbol for anarchy? And how did the anarchists get together to agree on it?

- 'Why is it considered necessary to nail down the lid of a coffin?'
In England in the 19th century they started digging up coffins and finding that hundreds had marks on the inside where the inhabitant had tried to get out. This led to the bizarre practice of putting a bell on each coffin for the inhabitant to ring if he needed to. - 'If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?' That's a joke, right? Sorry to be a smarty pants but the answer to the original post is that modern English is based on many other languages including Greek and Roman. The Roman words that ended in 'us' (eg genius) will be pluralised with 'i' (genii) as that is how it worked in Rome. Many other words have their roots in other languages and thus follow other rules. What does the inside of your mouth taste of? What does the inside of your nose smell like? If man landed on the moon, why can't we see the evidence through our super-duper telescopes? Where did Oswald get hold of a magic bullet? Was it from his trip to Russia? Were all Soviets equipped with magic bullets? No wonder they were so scary.

If man landed on the moon, why can't we see the evidence through our super-duper telescopes? You can't see the evidence simply because it is too small even with 'super-duper telescopes'. The smallest single object that can be seen on the Moon is around 500 metres across, much larger than any of the objects left at the six landing sites. That said, it is a reasonably simple matter to bounce a laser off one of the corner reflectors left at each site. You still need a super-duper telescope (around 3 metre diameter) and a reasonably powerful laser. Shoot the laser towards the Moon, aim fairly carefully as the beam is only around 1 km wide when it gets there, and just under three seconds later you will pick up the light bouncing back from the special reflector. Why would you want to do that? By accurately measuring the light travel time, you can measure the distance to the Moon to within a few centimetres. Twenty-one years ago it was one of my jobs to do just that. David. P.S. It's not just the US that put reflectors up there, you can bounce off the Soviet Lunakhod rovers as well. |

So how far is it?

Rounded off, the distance is 400,000 km (250,000 miles). The distance changes moment by moment, we were looking for orbital slowing and 'wobbles'.
For example, an object the size of a bus (the US lunar module bases are a bit smaller than that) at that distance subtends an angle of 6 millionths of a degree. An equivalent would be a US half dollar at a distance of about 500 miles. David. |

Yes Jonesc2ii; Oswald's bullets were magic. In fact I believe they were so magical they didn't come from Oswald. Remember Kennedy's head went "Back and to the left". Very magical bullets indeed.

To respond to the question of drinking age, it needs to be noted that drinking age is a state issue. There are no federal laws that prohibit drinking at 18. Any active-duty military member stationed overseas knows that they can drink on base if they're over 18 (and if that base isn't stuck somewhere like Saudi where drinking is illegal entirely.) Inside the U.S. however the military falls in line with the individual states and enforces the laws of the state they are stationed in. I believe Lousisiana was the last holdout state with a drinking age of 18 several years back. Federal pressure (in the way of with-held highway funds) caused most states to raise their drinking ages to 21 many years ago. But in theory this isn't a "Federal Govt" issue but a state law issue.

This came from my son, a budding Magician & Clown (thats me being Proud).
------------------------------------------------------------------------- Barney is satan. To get this you take the given: 1. cute purple dinosaur You turn all u's into v's, which is proper latin: 2. cvte pvrple dinosavr You extract all Roman Numerals: 3. CVVDLIV you add all #'s up 4. 100+5+5+500+50+1+5=666 Thus barney is satan. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ But then, most of us knew this already. Steve |
