I am new to this forum. I am looking for information on a ghost light. Year of release and pricing. Also any other manufacturer of a similar light that works when contacted with a magnet. Thank you. Pattrick

Welcome pattrick. Ghost Lamp was part of the 2011 Tenyo line. It is still available from a number of online sources at a variety of price points. The effect was the creation of bar magician Scotty York and and his original pops up on auctions at times. If you are handy his book "For Your Eyes Only" details how to make it. There have been a number of effects marketed using this "activation method" including a number of flashlights including "Beamshot". The Scotty York bulb is the only small bulb I am aware of.
There are some expensive remote control bulbs also on the market. http://cesaral.com/shop/en/see-all/35-ce......pro.html Cheers, John |

Don't buy the original--it's expensive and does not work consistently (and breaks easily). The version made by Tenyo is far superior and less expensive than the original!

I have an original Scotty York version that I bought from him at a convention years ago and it still works fine. I like the fact it is a real bulb and the fact Scotty made it is cool. Having said that, Richard is right in that the Tenyo version is perfectly acceptable and much cheaper.

Can you tell me the price of the Tenyo Ghost lamp when it was introduced, so I can judge should I find one? Thank you all for your input. Pattrick

It was about $25 in Japan, but was $90 in the US for reasons I've never been able to clarify.
You can get it for $35 on eBay from Japanese sellers. |

I've been offered a Tenyo Ghost Lamp which is stated to be new, sealed and unopened. Can anyone tell me if there are likely to be any issues with it, bearing in mind that it must have been sitting on the shelf for ten years? Many thanks

I don't think you will have any issues David, especially if it is new and unopened. Have not heard of any issues with this effect and mine is still going strong.
