I bet there are more than a few people here who can sing, from memory, the 40 year old McDonalds Big Mac jingle listing all the ingredients. Remember? Two all beef patties....
McDonald's has sold more burger BY FAR than anyone else in the world so they ought to know what a hamburger sits on. I don't care if you order a Big Mac in New Jersey or Shanghai, it's coming on a sesame seed BUN. And EVERYONE in the world knows it's coming on a sesame seed BUN. Honestly though, there is no real difference. You can call a hamburger or hot dog bun a "roll". If you want to be a weirdo. You can call a hamburger a "chopped beef patty" and a hot dog a "frankfurter" too. If you really want to be a dork about it. |

From the photos posted, it's obvious that it's a regional thing without a right or wrong answer.
You say bun. I say roll. We both know what we're referring to. |

Uh oh! I must have been parroting an earlier post. Sometimes I use sissy talk if it makes the listener more comfortable.
But, as I asked earlier, is it an onion roll or an onion bun? (You know, the Kaiser type thingies, which we also call hard rolls, that have onion flakes in them.) And I've never heard of a dinner bun. I always like to have a soda with my burger. I'll bet you bun people prefer pop. |

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer on the bun/roll thing but soda is definitely correct! I hate pop! That's what they call it up north.
I've know a few people, southerners mostly, who call everything a coke. It's like; "Hey I'll have a coke." "What kind?" "7-up" |

Reminds me of the medium who once channeled an ancient Egyptian princess. Problem was the the "princess" had a southern accent. The medium, when challenged about this, explained that the princess was from southern Egypt.

I thought "rolls" were savory and "buns" were sweet. Unless, of course, you are talking about "sweet rolls." (Not to be confused with "sweetbreads." "Sweetbreads" are offal!)

There are cinnamon rolls and cinnamon buns... pretty much the same thing. No wait... EXACTLY the same thing. There are sticky buns and honey buns and there are orange rolls. Hamburgers and hot dogs don't go well on any of them. But, you can take a penny roll, put a White Castle burger on it and it magically becomes a slider bun.

Problem is that a slider is served on a slightly larger version of a dinner roll.

Yes, but can you or should you tell someone, " hey you have a nice roll". Not on your life if you want to stay with your significant other. You have to agree that telling someone they have nice buns is much better. That's how I roll!
