I just returned from the IBM-SAM Combined Convention in St Louis where I turned the job of President of The Society of American Magicians over to Kenrick "Ice" McDonald. My year as President was a lot of fun...and a lot of work. I will still be involved in the S.A.M. as the Director of Marketing and also with Convention Publicity.
We got a lot of positive things done this past year including ratifying a statement against Cyber Bullying, taking on the maintenance of Houdini’s Gravesite in New York and demonstrating the connection between Science and Magic for over 300,000 kids at the USA Science & Technology Festival in Washington DC. We also have put in place several new partnerships that will make the SAM’s extensive Video and Media library available to all members online, bring new magic lectures to Assemblies across the nation and give the leaders of magic clubs the training and the tools to make their local clubs more fun. We partnered with the International Brotherhood of Magicians to produce the Largest Magic Convention on the continent and got The US Congress to recognize magic as an art. As President of the S.A.M. I visited New York City, Washington DC (2 Times), Boston, Hartford (CT), Los Angeles (3 times), Las Vegas (2 times), London, Blackpool, Omaha (NB), Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Nashville, Atlanta, Tucson (AZ), Phoenix, Austin, Fort Worth, Houston, Minneapolis/St Paul (MN), Columbus (OH), Springfield (MA), Boca Raton (FL) and many other cities. In most of these places I either lectured or performed. The amazing thing is that all of this was accomplished and I’m still married and I still got to perform over 410 shows this year (all though that is down about 140 from the previous year). All in all, it has been quite a year and I have had a wonderful time because I have had a wonderful team. I will try to keep everyone in the loop about these new benefits as they are developed but right now I want everyone to know about The Magic Summit. That is the leadership conference for magicians, focusing on strengthening magic clubs and improving the local club experience. It is being produced by many of the same people that put on MAGIC-Live. You can find out more at http://magicsummit.com/ The registrtion fee will be only $180 BUT each S.A.M. Assembly will get to send 2 members fot only $30 each. Now THAT is a huge benefit for the local Assemblies. Thanks again for all of the support I recieved this year. I can't wait to see where we will go from here under the leadership of "Ice".

For us at the Houdini Museum in Scranton, PA you made it the best year ever.
Thank you for picking up the care of magic's greatest icon's grave. Although we were asked to do it by both the management of the cemetery and the Houdini Family, we could not do it well enough with our limited resources and the long distance we are from the cemetery. Plus we will not live forever, but hopefully the SAM will! We are glad to turn over those responsibilities to the Society. We compliment you and the SAM on every tour. every day here at The Houdini Museum. We would also like to thank Eric DeCamps and President Elect, David Bowers for their work in helping to facilitate this. It is also a great step in the right direction to begin to get magic recognized as an art form. This has always been a problem when magic projects attempt to get grant money. Thank you so much for all you have done. We are sure National President Kenrick "Ice" McDonald will fill your shoes, as large as they have proven to be. Congratulations to you all.
