Great! Would love to see the intro a little more concise to bring me in faster.. and personally I would go direct with the "genetics" joke, but seems like a family place lol
Good work ! |

Really good work, I really like the poem presentation. Coincidentally, I'm working on a poem presentation for ropes at the moment.

It IS a great poem routine...it was when Doc Eason first came up with it:
http://youtu.be/6MIcs2PvyyI While it's a marketed routine and open for anyone to purchase and perform, we should make sure to give credit where credit is due... |

Lol sorry hank, I'm not really laughing at you.. Well yea I am, you're almost like my personal cheerleader. Next time I get up I'll be sure to let my audience know this is might have came from someone else.
Magicians are worst than girls in high school sometimes.

LOL, Sorry Lion, now it's my turn to laugh. Judging by the knee jerk reaction of that post, I'd say you might be correct, some magicians are worse than girls in High School sometimes. My comment was not directed at informing your audience, it was for the magicians who were commenting on how great the story and poem was. I wanted them to be aware that it's a great routine created by a fantastic performer and creator of magic, Doc Eason. You did a great job with your presentation, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Most of the routines I do on stage are my interpretation/take on marketed effects, of course with my own spin and storyline on it. This type of routine, like Sam the Bellhop and similar routines, require that you utilize most of the original story since it is crucial to what is taking place in the effect. As I said, I think you did a great job with it, you added some nice touches and nuances to make it your own. In no way was I "dissing" you or your performance. Again, I was addressing the Café members who were commenting on the story of the routine and giving them a reference as to who created it. I am always amazed at how things are taken/interpreted here on the Café, but then again, that's part of the entertainment value in it as well.

How many times should someone come on here and say okay I'm gonna give credit because this double lift was created by... Or that count you saw in my card routine was created by.. Lol just like a high profile magician who I know everyone respects said." If I'm doing it then it's mine". It's the lion double lift it's the lions count. Now if I'm selling an instructional video or teaching then we are in a whole different ball game.

Wow, OK, if you really want to do this, we totally can. I thought from your last post it was all good...apparently not. There is a huge difference between using a utility move such as a double lift and performing a specifically scripted routine created and sold by someone where the story, in this case a poem, drives the routine and the magic that occurs in it. Do you really think that I shouldn't have pointed out that this brilliant and witty poem driven routine was created by Doc Eason?! Some of the other magicians who saw this post might like to purchase it and add it to their working repertoire just as you did. How about just hopping on here and saying, "Yes, thanks to Doc for releasing this great routine, I love performing it. I get great reactions and it plays really well in my set."? No, instead lets do this dance. As I said, it never ceases to amaze me how people roll here on the Café. It's probably my own fault, I should have known better...

Thx remote and you are correct so that's what I mean astrocity, oh look this person created it first and you were completly wrong. I don't need to get on here and tell who, where, when I got the routine. I'm doing it so at that moment it's mine. If someone ask I'll direct them in the proper direction. What if I posted a routine that the inventor just wanted me to test out, but not put where it came from yet. Should I then put his/her name out. Dance over you just got served lol

Remote guy,
Thanks, I was always under the impression that Doc had originated that great routine. I had originally seen it on Doc Eason's Bar Magic Series. If you look here: You can see that doc even credits Kerry in the title of the effect on the DVD. My sincerest apologies to Kerry Pollock, another talented performer and creator for my mistake. |

Hefemexy,
My mistake in crediting the creator has absolutely nothing to do with the discussion I was trying to have with you here. You posted a video of you performing Kate and Edith, if I was mistaken about Doc and Kerry, why didn't you point that out, why did someone else have to do that for you? In any event, you posted your performance, which was a nice job as I stated, and several Café Members posted comments on how great the poem/storyline of the effect was, giving you kudos and the old pat on the back. I pointed out that it IS a great poem/storyline, just not yours. Rather than acknowledging that, you chose to go the Quote: and the you're almost like my personal cheerleader. Next time I get up I'll be sure to let my audience know this is might have came from someone else. Quote: route.
Magicians are worst than girls in high school sometimes. I pointed out that it's a story driven piece with a very specific storyline that drives the routine, the jokes and the magic and that we should acknowledge those that created that. You chose to follow that with Quote: and even better okay I'm gonna give credit because this double lift was created by... Or that count you saw in my card routine was created by... Quote:
It's the lion double lift it's the lions count. I asked you if you truly believe that a utility move, such as a double lift, and performing a specifically scripted routine such as this are the same thing and I get this Quote: I can see that this will never be a discussion. I apologize if my post letting people know that this is a scripted marketed effect messed with your ego stroking. It clearly pi$$ed you off. Not much left to say so I'll sign off and move on...oh wait, since I was "served", by remote guy btw, I'll dance on!
I don't need to get on here and tell who, where, when I got the routine. I'm doing it so at that moment it's mine. If someone ask I'll direct them in the proper direction. |

Hank Lee originally sold this for Kerry back in the 90's. The original price was $25.00. You can see Kerry perform this on one of Hank Lee's Conclave videos he released. Regarding credit, obviously you do not tell this to your club audience as you do say per the patter "composed by myself ...".
In the Café forum, most knowledgable magicians will know where it came, the purpose here I think was just to entertain us with Hefemexy's performance. For someone to subsequently post the history is part of the purpose and education of using this forum. I am sure those new to magic and to performing appreciated hearing the source of the routine for their own further research and study. |
