Why is it that when someone posts about a tragic or sad event, people "like" the post?

The likes are actually people thanking you for telling them the news.
At least for most people. (I'm sure there are some nasty ones who just don't like the grandmother as well... )

Maybe grandma hadn't been too nice to them?

I think most of the likes are intended as shows of support.
A few may be from people who just never really had much affection for the grandmother.

Do you guys read a thread before posting? Just asking. Developing a consensus here, at least, looks like, Bob.

The funny part was that my grandfather was one of the ones who "liked" the post.
But, seriously, the OP is just a line I wrote for my act. Thought some of you might find it useful. Laurie- |

They used to have a "dislike" or "unlike" or something, which I used to use specifically for things like dying grandfathers. But apparently it was abused, so FB removed it.

Rather than repeat a post, you like the post and you too are thinking of the same thing.

I thought about the same thing, why they liked something bad.
But I guess it is like others have said, to show respect. I've also noticed how people sometimes like their own posts. Why is that? Tom
