Companies say "like our face book page and you may win XYZ", all the time. It is marketing. They don't FORCE any one to like it or to write a review. They cant afford to give everyone their product for free. The only people who can leave a review is an existing customer. By offering a prize/drawing it actually rewards the community. Most people would leave a review anyways's so offering a prize just helps the lazy get motivated. Besides if the business is honest and has an honest drawing, then a NEGATIVE review has just as good a chance of winning as a positive review. I think Craig is right on the mark. That reminds me I have a review to write... CRUD... I forgot I don't own any of Craig's products...

Even kids know Harry Potter went to the wand and magic store, for goodies sakes it's right there on Diagon Alley... I would hate to know what opinions you all have of the poor guy that writes magic books for a living... |

Little bit of a difference between using a magic prop that looks like a prop and using other means.
Are you a children's entertainer or a 'mentalist' I know exactly what Jaime means and I think he makes a great point.

I have spoken with several people the last 24 hours who are all customers of Craig. Or to be more precise: These people have asked for my opinion about the FB like action as they do not like it at all. It's a fact. I understand them.
On the other hand: The website of PM was never protected (apart the Forum and the so called Secret Area). I think this might be an even bigger problem. Labco did it some time ago... It is logical that performers would love more secrecy, as a salesman you have to think differently. I respect Craig a lot, but I see the fact also that we have different interests. We have to live with that. I predict that mentalists will still perform while nobody - except some curious kids with money - will buy any electronic toys anymore. Jan

I performed routine that involved PM products at a class reunion earlier this month. The performance was a hit and as we all know, PM products are very effective in giving the impression that you possess some extraordinary skills.
Like always, I handed out my business card (that contains my Facebook information) and got a few new followers on FaceBook. One of these followers was very impressed and is looking at having me do a performance at a company dinner. Why in the world would we want to reduce the image we have? Like many of us, I have a combination of friends and fans on FaceBook, but who other than a very wealthy individual or a serious magician is going shell out hundreds of dollars for a PM product? I'll give the highest endorsement to Craig and PM products here on TheMagicCafe and will help publicize to the serious illusionists and mentalists found here so he can continue to produce excellent products. But sorry Craig, I'll also do my best to make sure no friends or fans of mine ever know of that website and products. |

First of all thank you for all of your comments and your support re the OP.
As far as FB goes If you combine the 'like's' for open FB pages for Murphy's, Penguin, ellusionist, theory11 you are over 300K likes. If you add ours to the list, you are still at about 300K. Keep in mind FB allows you to hide your 'likes' from your friends if you choose. If you do not hide these 'likes' your friends may see them. All of these companies want to keep their customers informed and none of us want to expose magic. We did look at both open FB pages and a closed group, and if there is enough customer demand we will further consider a closed group. As always, we are listening. -Craig

All this trouble and you can HIDE your LIKES on FB??? One would think mentalists could have seen that coming My advise to you Craig is to not even THINK about starting a "linked in" page, because someone here may predict your bad ethics... LOL You rock...

If everyone here is so concerned about laymen stumbling upon these types of products, perhaps holding such discussions in private areas on the Café would be a better idea? Seeing as this forum itself is publicly available on google and this thread has already been indexed. Just sayin'.

Have a look. A post you have made on MD Mini comes up in my results. Which then leads them to ProMystic's website. If that same person typed "magic cube" into google, ProMystic is nowhere to be seen. For most performers, a password protected site is the least of their issues. Having been involved with ProMystic for quite some time now, I may be slightly biased - but I've never worked with anyone who has more integrity than Craig. I feel that this email has been blown way out of proportion. |

Good idea, although as of now, this discussion has 1457 views, and I think I'm 1400 of them (in hopes of a hint of what Private Eye is) |

Wow, this discussion is off to a bad start... Very unworthy of announcement of a new PM product! Someone needs to start a "what do you think the new PM product will be?" underground.

Craig has worked extensively with me in the past not only on products already in production but also on specialty items as well. Craig never asked for an endorsement he asked for an honest review. A LIKE on Facebook is merely a way of connecting with PM and PM users it does not mean "LIKE" in the traditional sense of the word. Jamie no matter how you try to spin it you did, by merely usibg the word endorsement, imply through your verbiage that Craig was seeking forced positive reviews. You seem like a reasonably educated chap so I'm sure you upon more careful perusal of Craig's text as well as your own have undoubtedly cone to this conclusion. Furthermore Craig is well within his rights to give away his products under legal conditions as he sees fit.
The above being said, I have over 1,500 facebook friends, most of them fans who see my shows week in and week out. I promise you that they have and WILL seek out my likes and I value my PM and other effects too much to lead them right to an uninspired answer and ruin the mystery of great effects even if the actual methods are not discussed. I am a member of several closed groups but I will not like the PM page or participate in the contest - as much as I'd LIKE to until the group us closed. That is my personal choice but ultimately I respect others as well. . Most of all I respect Craig Filiciti an honorable person and look forward to his next effect. Good luck Craig.

I have been beta-testing "Private Eye" for several months and the reactions have been outstanding. The beauty is that it can be easily paired with many "traditional" Mentalism methods thereby unlocking the door to our creativity. Private Eye has proven to be reliable and the battery-life excellent (haven't had to change the battery yet). Another superb feature is that “Private Eye” can be performed in virtually every setting (stage, parlor, close-up, or casual/impromptu)…You’re in for an honest to goodness treat!

I'm so glad I've returned to the land of milk and honey - somehow 10 years passes by too quickly! While the OP is well justified, Craig IS one of the good guys. Remember everyone, he just rebuilt his website and is looking for some extra meat to spruce up the place. Craig knows I don't have a FB page, so he informed me that a review is enough to enter. As much as I'm a fan of PM, I wouldn't like PM if I were on FB; that would be a conflict of interest as a psychic entertainer.

Craig - a closed user group is a great idea. Thanks for listening to all the feedback here. Sounds like a good result.
Thanks to all those who engaged in a level headed discussion about the merits and demerits of promotional activity on Facebook. To those who used this thread as an opportunity to have a dig at me while adding nothing to the discussion (you know who you are) all I can say is....nyuk nyuk!

I could never be part of an open group on Facebook were mentalist products I use in my show and TV is discussed or shown. That is just my decision, and Craig is of course free to choose how he will run his own
business. I'm really looking forward to hear more about this product. |
