9 HRs so far. Have not cut the gimmicks yet. I have material for one shot at this then I have to buy some more material ( or have the shop do) so I am going slow on this part. I am changing the angle and length of the gimmicks to give twice the viewing (twice the sight lines)( not sure how much I can talk about this in open forum).

I guess that's the trickiest part. I agree that it belongs in a more private type of conversation. Good luck on the tricky part

Got the top gimmick cut (was not easy for me)-- The material for the gimmicks was salvaged off a old dresser I bought at GoodWill for $5. It was very thick material (a good thing). I could have bought the material a Lowes and had them cut for around $12 but the material would not have been as thick also could have gone the shop a few miles away and have them make but I guess it would have been $50 to $100. if they did it.

Update-- when I took the clamps off I could see the bottom gimmick was off 1/4 of a inch ( may not sound like much but it is). The only way to fix is take out the gimmick ( to do this I had to break it). I will have to fix it next week.

I cut a new bottom gimmick today --- This will run me over budget (so what is new).

I finished today, will try to get a picture up soon. I did not do the 45 thing to the gimmicks as I wanted to increase the sight lines by 50%. I also wanted to say the blades on the Osborne Plan are wrong (he drew them like small cutting into blades with the handle just on top-- they really need to be framed on 3 sides and the framing on the blades (when in place)create the slides for the center box to go up straight.

Looks great! I love the 1-2-3 on the boxes. Great job on the gimmick.

Gimmicks---I increased viewing by 50% by--lowering the back edge of top gimmick by a inch and lengthen it by 1 inch. Bottom gimmick I lowered the back edge by 1 inch and lengthen it by 7 inches, of course you can only do this if you put the 2nd box in the table. I have watch a lot of YouTube of this illusion --and think some are missing a beat in their performance, If you watch DC when the arm is split and the door open--you must move the table/boxes-- this sells that you are looking through the door to the background.

Just curious. Why did you number the boxes?

The whole thing looks great! The numbers look great, but I don't like them on this illusion. They don't fit. If you moved the boxes around, ok, but there seems to be no reason for them. I understand you wanted to be different, but I thought the point of those paint jobs was to create an optical illusion like ZigZag (suggesting where the arm should be) and to visually shrink the boxes. Even if they were painted and trimmed (a la sawing) without the numbers I would like it better. You're right, I think you took an easy solution. From this project, I bet you could come up with an unique idea for the front. the blades were cool. and those are my thoughts...

Osborne put flames on his in the plan (kind of like the flames on a race car- and uses a torch instead of a wand). I did not even know if this thing was going to work will about 2 weeks ago(when I made the gimmicks) so I did want something easy and cheap. You are right they make no sense ( but I don't think they have to --- I think we as Magicians sometime over think things).
