Hey gang. I've just posted two photos of the Milk Can and Water Torture Cell as depicted in the upcoming Houdini miniseries with Adrien Brody.
http://www.wildabouthoudini.com/2014/07/......ini.html I'll be posting more photos through the weekend. |

I think Robert Downey Jr. would have been a great choice to play him but they probably couldn't afford him.

Were the Egyptians well known for their decorated large metal milk cans? It just seems a little wrong to me - I cant put my finger on it but there seems to be something that is "a little off". Still it's the summer and it's quite warm round here so the thing that is just a little off could be my feet - encased in plastic and all sweaty as they are it wouldn't be the first time for them to be a bit off!

I suppose, Dave, as always, the producers of these type of programs, don't do their homework and seek out the true experts, or they don't know that true experts exist. So us "in the know" can look at parts of the program and think "that's not right". But to the public, they think it's all correct. Whenever I mention Houdini, I have lost count of the number of people who think he died in the Water Torture, because that's what they saw in the Tony Curtis movie.
Personally, I am really happy that this program has been made, possibly to "put those people right" about how he died. It may bring up other wrong facts, but unless real experts were involved, these things will always happen. My only hope now is that it will be shown here in the UK soon! |

Mick,
Do you relly think they are putting his death right? I saw a preview in which the water toroture cell is smashed with an axe, just like in the Tony Curtis cersion. I am sure with you in hoping they get it right, but I don't think Houdini ever had to be broken out of the WTC.
Magic is like Science,
Both are fun if you do it right! |

He does not die in the USD in the miniseries, which is a first for a Houdini biopic. They pretty much get the details of his death correct (although they drastically time compress events, but that's to be expected). |

When you think about it, who in their right mind would try to save someone's life, by smashing plate glass just inches away from a near naked body, with an axe?
If the drowning didn't kill him, then the btroken glass would! |

That way not killing Houdini! Just seriously injuring the first few rows of the audience! .......... I will not be getting a job as a Health & Safety person any time soon. |

Dear Mick, I have lost count of the grassy gnollists who think an innocent man named Jocelyn Gordon Whitehead was a psychotic assassin.
Without going into any technical detail because this is a public forum, Houdini had overlapping and reduntant safety features built into the Torture Cell. It was the most dangerous magic effect in the world -- and the safest. There had to be a contingency for a crack in the glass. I know exactly what it would be, but, I'll discuss it on my site houdinithekey.com -- don't go there yet -- which will be a closed site where we can discuss secrets without being rats. Bye the bye, ack in 1976, I was Franz weilding the fire axe. http://www.houdinisghost.com/shavelson.html |
