Hey ya'll, I'm pretty new, so I thought I'd share a story so you can get to know me a bit.

I've found that my best magical moments are the ones that I improvise, kind of like my other passion, music. With that said, here's something that happened the other day...

I was doing tricks on a friend in a coffee shop, and she was consistantly freaking out. Next thing I know she grabs the deck, cuts it, yanks out a card and dares me to name it. I just blew it off for the moment, but this triggered an idea that I hadn't messed with in a while. I decided it was worth a shot. I took the deck back, shuffled a bit... then I peeked a middle card, beveled the top and bottom in separate directions, taking care not to make it obvious. I also peeked the bottom card of the top stack as a referent. Then I told her we could try what she wanted earlier. I had her cut it softly to "let her intuition choose a card." I grabbed the half she cut off and had her place the card she cut to on the table. The card I peeked at as a check point was staring me in the face, so I knew it took. I concentrated and slowly named "ten of clubs". When she flipped the card over she couldn't even speak. She looked at me like I was from another planet.

I LOVE moments like this. Anyone else have a story like that where they improvise and get a huge reaction?

Improvisation? Hmmm yes that works a lot.
And then you get the unbelievably HUGE smile (like you can't believe you got away with it)

Well with coins sometimes I don't hide it well. And they go "I can see your coin". I'm like yea its a two coin trick. Smile

With cards the classic force is hard to learn. So when I fail I casually ask "is that your card? its not right?" well we're going to use that card for the next trick. Get them to stick it in the deck and I'll put their card on top or bottom. You say "Theres a 2% chance that you found your card. Show they did. Works everytime"

I was working a banquet and doing cards for one of the tables. I had already done one and was going into the second. I tell the person that I am going to name a card and mentally "force" them to push out the one I name and I will pick it up. It uses the one ahead principle. I name two for them, and then I draw the third. Well, I guess the lady didn't want to do it my way, so when I named the first card she reached down, and fliped it over on top of the other cards. It just happened to be the one I named! I ended the effect right there by telling her, "See, I told you I could control your mind!" Her jaw hit the floor and she was so busy inspecting the cards that she didn't pay attention to anything else I did.

Great Post.

Some of the greatest humorous moments in magical history comes from the spur of the moment occurence or joke.

The first time the bird had an accident on Johnny Thompson's shoulder, was a pure accident, but he just kept going with it and it turned out the be one of the funniest moments ever.

Too many people revolve around a script...but don't be afraid to stray from that to cater to the humor/needs of your spectators.
