Hey guys, I have a set routine for both sponge balls and the sponge bunnies. Whenever I head out for the night, I always find myself reaching for the bunnies over the balls. No matter the venue or age group. I feel you can tell more of a story with the bunnies then the sponge balls. So, here is the question....You are going out for the night....generally, you are not going to bring with you both sets of sponges....which ones do you grab? I can't imagine a scenario where sponge balls will play better over the bunnies...I really don't think it even depends on the age group/venue...Does anyone prefer sponge balls over the bunnies? Maybe, I'm missing something...

I can't imagine walking around all night with sponges in my pocket.

Both sponge balls and bunnies still get the best reactions, but most Magicians just don't like to admit it.
I like Bunnies, they are more fun. |

Using sponge balls of different colors (red, yellow, blue) has more impact than trying to color bunny sponges to appear different. Once you add color to the routine, the choice for sponge balls becomes clearer. Qua-Fiki seems to have gotten the "cuteness" factored in with his three color Sponge Fish (WizJ #20)- whether you use his Dr. Seuss patter or come up with your own.

I do both. I usually will start the evening with the balls, then later switch to the bunnies to keep things interesting...both are great.

I tend to do sponge balls most of the time and save sponge bunnies for repeat guests. With sponge balls I end with two in the hand. The multiple bunny ending is a real surprise even after people have seen the sponge balls. That way I have two strong routines instead of just one.

I never said a word about him that was you. What I can not imagine is if I am not working walking around with a pocket full of sponges all night. Maybe you need to not be so fast to assume what others mean. I have been an advocate of sponges here for a very long time. I am not an advocate of running around with them all night in my pockets hoping I can show them to someone. See the difference?

I work restaurants four nights a week. But I think we are getting sidetracked now. |

I did have a short phase of carrying around the sponges every day even when not working... *blushes*
However, at the time I was getting requests practically every day to show someone "that trick". So I wasn't seeking to show them, just not to disappoint Now I just carry a few coins and can get similar reactions from coins across. Anyway, not to get sidetracked, I agree with the above post that starting the night out with balls, then using bunnies later, is probably the best way to go as you can't really go the other way around. Bunnies will get better reactions, although the ladybirds have been talked about a lot on here too. I'm starting to think I should be using playing cards with cute animals on instead now... |

Why Can't you switch? You are not showing them to the same people are you?
I use rabbits. One very practical reason is they don't roll all over creation and if you put it in a persons hand it is far less likely to be dropped.

I prefer Spongeballs, just because I think you can do more with them. My opinion before anyone jumps on me.

I think sponge balls/bunnies are a great thing to carry around all the time if you want. Magic of the moment is a great thing and they are light and take up little room.

I think it boils down to what you prefer to perform with. For adults, I usually prefer the rabbits. For kids and family audiences, I usually prefer the balls. I size-up the group before I go on, to decide what sets to perform.

I haven't stopped laughing since I read the title of this thread. The Great Sponge Debate?? Really??
A monumental episode in the annals of time... right up there with the Lincoln-Douglas Debates. Hahaha!!! "So, in conclusion I'd like to point out..."

At least if a fight breaks out, no one will get killed by being pelted with sponge balls.
