In the ancient art of butchery, a steak knife is used to cut steaks. A boning knife is used to remove bones. To this day, there is no such thing as a deboning knife.
A chef telling a butcher about removing bones is like a butcher telling a chef how to cook. |

But, regardless of my opinion, the words bone and debone do seem to be synonymous in many dictionaries. So I will concede.
Another fun debate, Mr. Cassidy. Good day sir. |

Actually, the are synonymous in ALL major dictionaries.
But, yes, it was fun. That's the only reason I post here. What's the difference between "flammable" and "inflammable?" |

Magicfish-
I thought you already conceded this argument. Besides, I thought everyone knew that "bone" means to put the bone in, and "debone" means to take it out. It's very enjoyable, actually. |

Bob. I conceeded the argument I had with you.
Lobo wants to show that he's found someone on the planet who calls it a deboning knife. Im not surprised. But if lobo, or any other university grad goes to his butcher shop, I promise on my Café membership, he will only find a boning knife. |

I can find a hundred deboning knives online. doesn't mean theyre not boning knives.
I can find irregardless as a legitimate entry in Websters. doesn't mean its a word. |

And Bob, things work their way into the language over time as I'm sure you've studied.
I cannot go up against you on many topics. I have a college diploma. Im an electrician. But butchery has been my existence from birth. I know I cant change your opinion because youre looking at things from a scholarly perspective. Yes its in the dictionary, yes people use it. Yes people name knives after it online and maybe elswhere. But in my universe it is wholly incorrect. It is beyond sacrilege. Love you guys. |

But you must admit, your earlier statement that "deboning" means putting the bones back in is completely incorrect, whether you're a butcher or not. |

I was a chef before I went into magic full time. I looked at both examples of knives submitted here. Semantics aside, I can assure that no self-respecting chef would ever own or trust a six or even eight dollar knife. They are both cheap-ass examples that are good for nothing except supporting the idiocy of this argument.
So, since I made the original post, I will attempt to put an end to this by saying that REGARDLESS of which side you support, the term Wunder Boner is infinitely funnier (in a sophomoric kind of way) than would be Wunder De-Boner.
