I prefer something like people who think they know something are in far more trouble than those who are sure they don't.
Bob nor I offered a dismissive attitude to anything the man has to say. We both seem to be thinking that all you ever speak in is slogans and useless platitudes. Action is required and in general terms you seem to have taken odd actions. You want to pontificate yet seem completely unwilling to see there is another point of view. Then you accuse others of trolling. You seem to get one point of view and stick to it like Crazy Glue on a hard hat. Facts don't matter to you in the least. Make no mistake it is not ol BG I am dismissive of. It is totally your interpretation of him I question.

IMO, you can make some money following the lessons of Graham.
And you can make even more if you take advantage of some of the wisdom that's been added in the 65 years since The Intelligent Investor came out.

I'm not big on suing Lobo and it's a game I don't like to play. I do hire lawyers to help give me the best protection from defense against lawsuits given that I am in business for myself and I do use contracts myself in business to keep liability off myself personally and if possible off my company. There is no guarantee of that though as you well know being a lawyer yourself. I also like to do honest business in an ethical manner. I should have read what I signed even though I felt some deception was being used (and I honestly feel like there was and I am not trying to make excuses) and getting in the whole business of suing people sounds like it can turn dirty pretty quick and no offense to you at all, but it seems like the only real winners in the end would be the lawyers (well lawyers always win the end no matter what, it is what it is). Sometimes you just make mistakes and you have to pay for them.

I hope that's true. Shame on him. I have read that Navy SEAL vets are no long welcoming him to reunions and Jesse Ventura said he doesn't want to go because he would always have to look over his shoulders after the lawsuit. Jesse Ventura is certainly right. You never screw over fellow vets or your buddies. I also believe that Ventura was shooting his mouth off as well about things he doesn't know much about and believe that he really did got his lights punched out. Just because he won his lawsuit doesn't mean that the incident didn't take place. I'm not a supporter of Bush myself, but at the time Chris Kyle was serving under Bush and Bush was the Commander in Chief and the boss of the armed forces. You don't talk bad about the President while you are serving, even if you personally don't like him. He's still the President. Plus, many service members were making sacrifices in Iraq, so Jesse would have been better served by not shooting his mouth off.

I have no problem with Ventura suing the estate, if the event was fabricated. But I don't have a strong opinion as to who was lying.

The jury decided, 8-2, that Kyle lied about the event.

Well, one thing is for sure. Jesse Ventura didn't come out as a winner in his lawsuit. From what I read, most of the money he won is going to pay for his lawyers and now he is no longer welcome at Navy SEAL reunions and his reputation has not been restored, but rather destroyed despite his legal victory. Chris Kyle certainly wasn't a winner after being gunned by one of his fellow vets who sufferred from a case of PTSD that he was trying to help and Kyle's wife is certainly a big loser as well in this case. About the only winners out of this whole mess, were the lawyers. Personally, I am more afraid of the guys with pens than I am with the guys with guns. The guys with pens are far more dangerous than the guys with guns. The guys with pens wield much more power plus they get paid more.

You might be right about that Lobo. But the guys with pens have been known to be responsible for the deaths of millions rather than a few or a hundred. Stalin and Hitler certainly fall in that category. It reminds me of a quote by Stalin: "The death of one is a tragedy, the death of millions is a statistic."

I suspect that if Ventura's claims are true, he's less upset by the part about getting punched out than he is by the statement that Kyle alleged that he (Ventura) said - that the Seals "deserved to lose a few." That's where the alleged defamation was.

Exactly, Lobo. Ventura vehemently denied EVER saying any such thing about the SEALS. He is, in fact, VERY proud to have been associated with them and the evidence proved, to the satisfaction of the jury, that Kyle's statement was false and defamatory.
The defamation had NOTHING to do with the punch. But why is this tread being derailed? What does Jesse Ventura have to do with investing? |

Some additional interesting facts in this article from the conservative (!) press: "Justice for Jesse: Ventura Was Right in His Lawsuit. People beating up on The Body are ignoring facts and basic fairness." http://www.nationalreview.com/article/38......rdlinger Not the least concerning the lies Kyle told about donating book royalties to charity. "Out of the staggering $3 million that American Sniper collected in royalties for Kyle, only $52,000 actually went to the families of fallen servicemen. (Rather than 100 percent of the proceeds, as the public was led to believe, try 2 percent!)" The end summary is nice: "A jury, with far more information than we the public have (including the chance to listen to witness testimony and watch Kyle’s deposition), essentially found that Kyle lied. The fact that many conservatives are furiously shaking their heads, refusing to accept this, and taking it even further by attacking Ventura for daring to clear his name is extremely disturbing. Ventura is the jerk for suing to restore his reputation — not Chris Kyle for lying and making an easy target sound like a demon, for the sake of financial gain and publicity."

Getting back to the main theme of this thread - investing - one problem with broad-market index funds is that they tend to be overdiversified: you're buying a lot of securities that aren't doing you much (if any) good in enhancing your return or reducing your risk.
