I am a newbie to this forum, but not to magic in general. I am sure that this thread has come up before but couldn't find it. I am seriously thinking about starting to use the Chop Cup. I have a Cups & Balls Routine (using the Sherwood Sliver Cups which I think are the best money can buy).

I would like to know which Chop Cup people swear by and can you recommend a workable routine? I know Ken Brooke (UK) used to sell a good chop but you can't get one of those for love nor money. All help appreciated!

I have the Loomis set on order. People on this forum seem to love the routine and props. BTW - I have a set of the Sherwood Silver and Gold engraved cups.

Although it has been done to death, it is very hard to beat Don Alan's Chop Cup routine. It's a good starting point for someone who wants to do a chop cup.

The Loomis cup is one of the best. It is made by James Riser, who really knows how to turn a trick...er...spin a cup? Smile Smile

I got the Loomis Micro Chop Cup set last night. I had a rehearsal so I didn't have a lot of time with it, but the props look really nice. If you buy the complete set you get all the stuff you need to do the routine in your hand or on a close up pad. The silver chop cup (comes with silver and copper chop cups) looks like a little shot glass, very small. Haven't looked at the routine yet, but so far looks really good. Anyway, it's something a little different from a chop cup that looks a lot like a cup from a cups and balls set.

They weren't available in 2004, when the original post was written; however, because the originals have brought so much at auction recently, they have started showing up again. It is not easy to tell the Ken Brooke cups from the original Al Wheatley Master Cup.

The cup referenced in the link is actually closer to a Wheatley Master Cup, Jr. The Ken Brooke cups had a thicker bottom edge.

The "innocent" chop cup by James Riser is absolute perfection.

Yet another vote for John Bannon's Chop^2 from Impossibilia. I like the routine because it removes the sting out of the routine that seems to be inherent in so many.

PS: Chances are that the OP is not around anymore but the thread is still relevant.

My favorite chop cup is one that was made briefly by Harry Stanley's Unique Magic Studio. It's a leather pencil cup. It looks completely innocent, but "chops" as well as any cup I have seen. The biggest advantage is that billiard ball loads are completely silent.

Bill, are you talking about Harry Stanley's "High-Ball Cup" 50s-60s?
I'm aware of at least two different kind of cups sold under this name, one is "metal" and the other is a very classy seamless Italian leather tapered DICE cup... but could be a "pencil cup"...Is yours something different? Thanks

I have to confess I fell in love with the Riser/Loomis micro chop cup when it appeared-

I have the copper and stainless steel versions but always use the stainless stell one that looks like a travel cup or promotional gift of some Scotch Whisky Brand.

I have a personal routine for it that I love too

Thought it was no longer available but just came across this link...

Maybe it's an un updated old one?

That leather one is the one I have. Inzani-Henley put out a series of tricks using a similar cup that had dice on it. Mine has no dice at all.

Which one? He has done several. If you are referring to the Buddha routine, that may not be his. It's him, but probably not his.
