I don't think that this qualifies as "mentalism", but more as "comedy mentalism"?
Anyway, the first Fool Us act from Jandro is one of the greatest predictions I have ever seen. |

Just asking, not challenging ...
is "huge reaction" the measure of "best mentalism effect?" (or any performance?) Is the immediate response of any kind the best measure? But, for an entertainer, what else? I was once told the only person that had to be impressed was the booking agent. Me, I like the response I got 40 years after the performance.

I live in a place where there are no magicians around me so all the effects I have seen is on YouTube or T.V and the one that I find the best is by DB in which he manipulates the psychology students in one of his specials where he put money in an envelope and ask them to tell in which envelope the money s there are just two envelope and every time they miss he increase the cash . That is just truly astonishing .

Tim Conover's Crystal Ball effect. Incredible.
"The New York Papers," Mark Twain once said,"have long known that no large question is ever really settled until I have been consulted; it is the way they feel about it, and they show it by always sending to me when they get uneasy. "

Why can't magicians just enjoy someone's shared performance without instantly asking where they can find it, is it available, and wanting more information? Then when not easily seen at first glance want to be hand-held and taken directly to it?
Not everything is yours just for the taking. What about respecting someone's hard work, skills, and personal creativity and just enjoying the performance without feeling entitled to it themselves? If you really want to know about it contact Tim himself and see how far that gets you. |

Why after years I still see people ranting because they are too close-minded to understand that everyone is different?
I personally enjoy a lot seeing a good mentalism or magic performance, but as a magician I enjoy even more to reverse engineer it and apprieciate the clever and smart construction behind. Otherwise, nothing wrong, but I would be a layman. The whole purpouse of this a forum is, among the other things, to share thoughts, ideas, comments in a "controlled" environment. And if someone put in print his effects or market them, then I support the creators buying their books (last one for me was Doug Dyment's), videos (last one was "Power of Poker" by John Bannon) and paying for their shows. Still I don't ramble non sense about people thinking differently from me. P.S. we were talking about the envelope effects, not the Tim's one. |
