Well, way out of my waters here, but I have always enjoyed a bit of some good mentalism.

I think that at least one of the best mentalism effects I've ever seen is perhaps the one I still do from time to time from my journey, The Hoy Book Test, by David Hoy, aka Dr. Faust.

Man. when I first saw it done, it baffled me to no end. After learning and presenting it in various places like libraries, book stores, news stands and in quite a few offices and people's own homes, it has stood the test of time for me as an impromptu giant. It is so simple but guarantees wonder & amazement everytime. Not that a lot of the other effects mentioned here aren't as miraculous, but this little gem has always commanded repeat performances from all that I have ever done it for. I don't think I saw it mentioned in this thread (and I'm sure there are deeper holes to be dug in this arena), but it truly deserves to be, despite its perfect simplicity.
