Anyone looking for Okito-style magic should check out Michael Baker's Baker-Tysi-Sewell Vanishing & Reappearing Block. I don't know whether Okito ever had something this, but the ingenuity of the effect and the finish of the props certainly would have done him proud.
The basic routine is that a solid block is shown in a cabinet, suspended by a wooden rod. The block is removed from the cabinet, which is shown empty and closed. The block is shown to be solid, and placed in another box, with no space to spare. The block simply vanishes from this box and reappears in the original cabinet, again threaded on the wooden rod. The effect seems impossible, yet works as smooth as glass. And to top it all off, the props are GORGEOUS. In summary, this is one of the finest pieces of mechanical magic I've encountered in years. I was very fortunate to purchase the only one listed on Michael's site http://www.themagiccompany.com/cat_main.html Fortunately the magic community, I think he plans to make more. I have never met Michael, and I have no reason to promote his products - except that I have purchased a LOT of magic that failed to meet my expectations, so I'm excited to find something that exceeded them! |
