Just out curiosity, how many posters in this thread would approve of Uzi lessons for their 9-year-old children?

I would not.

I agree. And IMO, it can't seriously be argued that that culture is the sole cause to which the fact that a whopping 3.1 more people per hundred thousand are intentionally killed...

I believe this particular thread was addressing the unintentional killings that are arguably the collateral damage of present gun policy...

I agree. And present gun policy is a direct result of our gun culture.

I suspect that from TonyB's reference to Sandy Hook and "all the other atrocities," that his comments were not limited to unintentional killings, and it was to his comments that I was primarily responding.

Just out of curiosity, would you trust a climate hysteric with an Uzi?
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Can't you keep that nonsense in the climate change thread instead of polluting other threads with it? That post contributes absolutely nothing to the discussion.

The reason Ireland has a higher homicide rate than Iceland is that we have a drugs gang problem in this country, which I have written about in a number of books. Legalise pot and our homicide rate would drop by 40-50%. But if we double our homicide rate we are still way behind the USA.

And we don't have girls killing gun instructors with Uzi's, cops shooting TV crews, and it is safe to be coloured and walk our streets.

It seems add if you do not like the 2nd, 4th and 6th amendments and the 10th may be on the critical list.

Not addressing you now but I wonder for those who want no restrictions on abortions because of a slippery slope argument feel the same argument should be applied to guns and restrictions?

How about we enforce the gun laws we already have? That is an idea. How about we talk about it on terms of what kills more people? Traffic as these things are far more people are killed by hands with guns than negligent parents. These things bring guns to light because the thousands of killings in the inner city go unnoticed. That is sad.

For s while it wasn't safe to be Catholic or protestant and walk your streets. School bus bombings were the norm in your Irish paradise.

What study have you done to back up the claim about drugs?

Who wants absolutely no restrictions on abortions? I've never heard of anyone speak in favor of aborting an 8 month fetus, for instance.

I don't know the people in the 13% group personally, but nonetheless:

http://www.cnn.com/POLITICS/pollingcenter/polls/3348

Do you think there should be major restrictions on owning guns or only minor restrictions?

- There should be major restrictions on owning guns 37%
- There should be minor restrictions on owning guns 33%
- All guns should be illegal for everyone except police and authorized personnel 15%
- There should be no restrictions on owning guns 13%

60% Of Canadians favor unrestricted abortions. Funny the things you miss. My guess is you know some of the 60%.

Yes, well keep in mind that poll was sponsored by a conservative source asking a leading question, and that that particular poll was an aberration compared to most others. Also:

"While six in 10 Canadians say they support unregulated abortion, other polls suggest that when the question is phrased to ask about support for a law to regulate abortion in the final trimester, opinions change, according to Maclean's."

Anyway, I didn't mean to sidetrack the main topic.

Gee, what do you know...so do we! And an unsecured 2,000-mile border with an impoverished nation that hosts bloodthirsty drug cartels. You think THAT might have a little something to do with our homicide rate, rather than just your simplistic views of our "redneck" mentality?

Oh great news! We'll pretend that's not wholly speculative, and now I can write off 40-50% of *our* homicide rate, too, as! Now we're down to one homicide for every 40,000 people or so.

Bully for you. And if Iceland doubles theirs, they're still way ahead of you.
