Hello all,
Which no gimmick self working tricks which does not require dealing would be your recomendation? After all, it does get boring if lengthy deal based tricks are presented one after another... Regards, Sumedik. |

No gimmicks meaning not even a crimp? Also true self working with zero moves from magician or semi automatic like holding a break?

Well "semi automatic" would be the word. I am, thinking of situations where I am trying to show a few effects with a deck which is in very sad state (read broken from middle etc), with a few cards missing maybe...
Also let us assume I do not have a table and people are all around... |

Hey sumedik, I always do card trick in that situation...one deck, any condition, impromptu. And must be a good effect and easy to do.
Here is a list : Dani Daortiz "Twin prediction" (ACAAN plot) Walter B. Gibson "Double salto" (Do as I do plot) Lorayne "One Eyed Jack sandwish" Tomoyuki Takahashi "One hand challenge reverse" Cameron Francis "Emergency" (Triumph) Frank Garcia "The gun trick" (different kind of trick, always fun to do) Nicolas |

How about doing a few packet tricks, removing the packets from your broken deck?

Well Nicolas...thanks a lot for the list which is quite "international" in nature I am trying to find the sources for the same...
@Atom... Yes why not? Which packet tricks do you recommend? I was brainstorming a bit and thought that these are the "sleights" that can be performed even when the spectators are burning your hands, no matter what the condition of the deck is: Glimpse/peek Infinity crimp Glide False cut Break Force Mercury card fold Also a mini setup of less than 10 cards can be done right under their noses. So any card trick incorporating these can be added to the list as well. I am sure these would be called "semi automatic". False shuffle to retain about top 10 cards of the deck |

Al Leech had some great "semi-automatic" tricks which did not require dealing.

Yes I am trying to get "The Card Magic of Nick Trost". Considering a real life situation where I am totally unprepared and someone hands me over a deck in sad state with a few missing, I envision doing maximum 3 effects. I would like to present stuff which is different than what lay people expect with cards typically, that is "pick a card type" of outine. I would also like to estalish than rather than doing an obvious "sleight of hand" show or a "trick card" presentation (which is improbable as I a using a borrowed deck anyway), I would like to present some magic, in the sense that impossible stuff would happen in THEIR hands. On that note I would like to present the following: 1. Prediction effect: Shuffle Bored. 2. Transposition: Dr. Daley's last trick. 3. Pick a card where they get to be the magician as well: Duplicity Additionally I also have Lorayne's "Stop" and "Gemini Twins" in my Kitty. They require dealing, so one can be thrown in certainly. If you have any dealing effect which you feel gets sronger reactions than these 2, please let me know So my basic set is prepared, now it is time to explore to improve knowledge base I am also trying to come up with a list of effects that I can do with stuff I carry with me all the time, so I can present a few effects even if no cards are available, but that is to be discussed elsewhere. |

So, oldish thread but ...
You really need to check Ryan Schlutz's material. No dealing and really GREAT card magic. If you are willing to invest the money, THE "goto" resource for all things "semi-automatic" is Steve Beam's Semi-Automatic Card Tricks series. If you don't want to plump for all eight volumes, at least get volumes five through eight. Steve invented a count titled The Killer Count. Imagine for instance being able to perform estimation dead on all the time. But there's more! The late master Aldo Colombini devoted an entire e-book to this titled Killer Koncepts. It's well worth the tenner. Have you checked out Woody Aragon's A Book in English? You should. Trust me. Buy it. Now. |

Sumedik, I realize your query is about 6 months old and you've likely already found what you're seeking. But, all the same (and since I just joined after lurking for a few months prior), I'll add a recommendation for some material to which Vlad alluded.
Ryan Schlutz has two recent DVDs available, both of which are available on the Big Blind Media site and many other sites, offering a whole host of wonderful, basically self-working trick. These two DVDs are:
I purchased both a while back because, as a rank beginner, I figured they'd offer material to perform for friends and family while I'm learning some of the basic sleights and such. Both are wonderful productions, especially for someone like me who's recently retired and now has time to learn some new things. And, not only that, there's also some delightful "eye candy" in the videos, as well. So, for what it's worth from a rank beginner, that's my two cents' worth. Xsyllman |

I'll also suggest Verbal Magic by Juan Tamariz. The focus is on magic that is done with audience participation.
Originally, these were items that Tamariz used for a series of radio shows. This forced him to come up with precise verbal instructions that enabled the audience participants to perform the necessary actions correctly. At the same time, the instructions were crafted to make the tricks more deceptive.
