I always thought the character of The Mandarin was not quite fleshed out as well as it needed to be in the comic books.
Each ring had a specific power, and was worn on a specific finger. Some of the names have been changed in recent years. Originally they were adapted from alien tech. Looks as if "wenwu" will appear in this Shang-Chi dealio. That is the "real mandarin" that Kingsley alluded to.

It rubbed me the wrong way, because I felt they diverged too far afield of the original concept. Granted,I accept his foe,Sinestro, having a yellow one. But to have them run the entire gamut of the spectrum was way too much. Just wondering how you felt about those stories, Cliff. |

To answer your question Orville, first, remember that I am a Green Lantern fan. Also, I am the kind of fan who went out of his way to acquire a copy of Green Lantern number 1 from 1960. In other words, I am a purist.
I have no problem with Sinestro, he is the classic "I have to fight and defeat myself gone bad" which happens at some point in just about every comic book. Spider-man has Venom, Superman has Bizarro, etc. But do remember something. Sinestro had a yellow power ring started early in the green lantern run. (number 7, 1963) Back then it was not will-based Green vs. fear-based yellow. It was Sinestro went yellow as Green Lantern couldn't affect it, and was vulnerable. Over the years there were some serious art/plot errors with that. For example, two giant Power Ring generated fists arm wrestling. That should not have been able to happen, but it did. But overall Sinestro has enough personality and difference from Hal to keep him interesting and believable as a character. As opposed to Bizarro who I could never take seriously and might not have been supposed to. So... No, I don't care for all the different color lanterns. Some of the oaths that go with them are interesting I guess, but no. If some evil scientist had taped into Hal's ring and created a rainbow group of villains to mess Hal up, that would have been fine as a one-shot or even a story arc, but I find them totally disinteresting as ongoing characters. Given a Green Lantern's mission, and how vast each of their sectors is, that should make for plenty of story possibilities. BTW, my favorite one-shot Green Lantern still has to be the F-Sharp Bell. A blind Green Lantern from a lightless world who believes (s)he is manipulating sound. Great oath to go with it too. "In loudest din, In hush profound, my ears catch evil's slightest sound, Let those who toll out evil's knell, beware my power, The F-Sharp Bell." Don't know who wrote it, but that is way cool and makes me wonder what the ring energy really is. Earth based Lanterns experience it as green light.

To be fair "Latina".
To be serious does it matter? She is from Krypton right? She has no earthly race connections.

OK, So as has happened so often before, Orville has asked me to use my Science/Physics background to critigue this video.
With apologies to Orville... I can't. I don't know who this guy in the video is, but his Physics is spot on. His engineering is brilliant. His science is all accurate. There is really nothing for me to say, except that I may show this to my Physics class as an example. The guy did great work.

For MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) fans, Phase 4 has kicked off in 2021.
We've now had these MCU Disney+ Series: "WandaVision", "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier", and "Loki" (Season 1). MCU Disney+ Series still to come in 2021 are "What If?" (Season 1), "Ms. Marvel", and "Hawkeye". We've also had the MCU Movie, "Black Widow". MCU Movies still to come in 2021 are "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings", "Eternals", and "Spider-Man: No Way Home". (... and many more MCU Disney+ Series and MCU Movies announced for 2022 and 2023. See the link above.) I think it's interesting that they are considering an animated series, "What If?" as part of the MCU. No trailer for the "Spider-Man: No Way Home" movie yet, but lots of speculation online that it will be a live action Spider-Verse Movie. Is anyone else taking it all in? - Donald

Of all those that Donald listed, the one that interests me the most is The Eternals. I understand the film will include an appearance by the Black Knight.

Here is what I believe to be the flaw with that line of reasoning.
A contract is a contract. They need to be lived up to. It does not state "I am worth 160 million, so Disney can do whatever they want." It says something specific and completely independent of her financial status it needs to be lived up to. Otherwise you end up with a sort of sliding scale of "fairness" and something that is QUITE subjective. They need to live up to what is written on the paper. PERIOD. Otherwise a contract literally means nothing. I can feel sorry for her easily. Even folks worth that many millions can be taken advantage of. What does it matter if she is worth that? If one is taken advantage of then it is wrong isn't it? What if the school you are working at just decided to violate your employment agreement? Worse yet what if someone who was making considerably less than yourself just said "I find it hard to feel sorry for him he makes plenty of money"? Obviously this would be quite wrong. It is the same thing with larger numbers. The numbers do not make it more right or less wrong. Otherwise the world descends into this type of chaos and it will be bad. Many argue this is the very road we have started down a society.

They’ve just added the Marvel One-Shot called “All Hail the King” from 2014 to Disney+. Its a short, 13-minute bonus video that was only included with “Thor: The Dark World” BluRay (so I had never seen this bonus video, although I’d heard of it). This bonus video ties the story of the Mandarin in “Iron Man 3” with the upcoming movie “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings.” Oh, and there’s bonus scenes through the end credits of “All Hail the King.” It’s stars Ben Kingsley, who played the Mandarin/Trevor Slattery in “Iron Man 3.” - Donald P.S.
