Don't write off DC yet. Sometimes an Underdog can make a sudden spurt. Granted, the Justice League movie disappointed, but Wonder Woman remains a reliable standby, as witness her solo outing.

Oh I like DC movies OK and I believe there will always be a market for them. They're just not going to catch up to Marvel is all I'm saying. That's my prediction and I'm doing pretty good in the movie prediction business so far.

Actually, Danny, the other year, you told me to Not give up on DC. So that gave the impression that you predict DC as catching up.

Also my prediction came true as to Infinity War's box office results surpassing Star Wars.
Enthusiastic as Rockwall is about Infinity War, I'm glad that he still likes DC. When I introduced this thread, I meant it not as a contest between Marvel and DC but instead to express my appreciation for both. |

Not giving up on them in no way means that they are somehow catching up. With Marvel doing the Netflix stuff now they are even losing ground in the TV business. I think DC has a VERY rich character history. Their tapestry of villains is a vibrant palate from which to color. Unfortunately most times they make all the characters too one dimensional. With W squared they got into a much deeper and much more interesting development process. They started to do the same with Batman with Christian Bale, but got away from it with Ben Afflek. He did not necessarily do a bad job, just not a deep portrayal is all. They have some AMAZING stories to tell, but seem to not want to dip into them.

How can DC catch up with Marvel? Right now they have no chance..... The Justice League was an OK film. I liked it. The Avengers blew them out of the water though.
But Marvel is about to have a problem... DC could catch up, but they have to do things... Capitalize on Marvel's problem.... Begin to produce higher quality movies. Here is Marvel's problem. Phase three is coming to a close next year. Phase one and two all led up to phase three very deliberately. Marvel built and created the amazing continuity they have had in the comic books since the 1960's. Can they keep it going into phase 4? from what I see it will be difficult. Oh they will still have characters pop up in each other's films, that is easy to do, but can they keep the audience waiting for the strong climax years away while sitting on the edge of our seats? I think this is going to be a tall order. DC needs to get busy with characterization. Thanos was handled brilliantly in terms of his motivation. It was believable, made him sympathetic and even seem human. I started to understand why some others might side with him. In film and on paper, it is easy to create a 1-dimensional hated evil character. But that is far less likely to hold an audience.

Both are fun if you do it right! |

I disagree that Marvel is about to have a problem. I think they're about to create new audience interest by retiring some older characters and introducing a new stable of heros. Just as you've got some hoping for superhero fatigue to set in, Marvel is about to introduce a whole new set of heros to keep things exciting. Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther have shown how beneficial adding new characters to the MCU has kept audience interest. As much as I'll miss Ironman, Capt America, (who I'm guessing won't see new movies focusing on them), and others, I think it will ultimately be the right move for Marvel.
Also, I'm hoping that at some point Marvel gets control of the Fantastic Four and finally gives them the treatment they deserve. I wouldn't want to see it for a few more years but it would be fantastic to see them get introduced towards the end of the next phase. I had heard that the next phase was going to involve outer space more and that initially worried me but after watching Infinity Wars, I'm no longer worried about how Marvel would deal with stories out in the cosmos and with all the strange cosmic characters they have in their library. And I'll admit. It IS a bit of a competition for me because, while I started out reading DC as a kid, once I moved onto Marvel, I always felt Marvel was the better story teller. |

I was a specific DC charectors fan. Batman, Green Arrow and believe it or not Aquaman once they made him cool.
Marvel I was a fan of the brand. I liked most of what they did. The story of Korvac/Michael and the Collector and all that through the Avengers I liked a lot as a kid. I agree they tell better stories.

Innovative for that time and still is. The only glaring flaw is Rita Farr because she looks totally normal. And her superpower is the same as Marvel's Henry Pym. Yet she is considered a Freak by the public at Large. As far as I know, it was never explained as to why she is branded an Outcast. Mine is not a petty nitpick because, after all, the whole premise of the Doom Patrol is their Pariah nature. |

I don't imagine DC catching up till 2020+ DC has iconic night and day, Super powered optimism and well funded determination in common cause. Little sister gets a cape too. And the future looks good for all sorts of people, be they green or shapeless. Their adult comics movies like Watchmen were awkward.
Marvel comics is a different brand. More about character interior. DC tried later to go angst/angry... but it's not their brand. Even today it's creepy watching Mister Miracle escape depression. Megaton Man, the movie?

Today at McDonald's, somebody told me that the Infinity Wars film had a Cameo by Brother Voodoo. I guess the Cameo must have been so momentary that I did not notice. Did anybody else notice Brother Voodoo?

Captain America and other Marvel heroes were popular during the 1940s but during the 1950's all of Marvel's heroes were not published at all, dead in the water. But during those many years, DC's Superman and Batman continued to be published Uninterrupted. So while Marvel outdoes DC in the films, Marvel can never catch up with DC's 75 yrs of Uninterrupted publishing history. I'm glad that Cliff reminded us of that. Thanks,Cliff. |

So I just read this:
https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2418871......s-marvel "Marvel is planning to do Miss Marvel after Captain Marvel y’all Muslims. Prepare to finally be represented." Now, I don't know much of anything about Miss Marvel Kamala Khan. My first thought was, "They're going to have to female Marvel characters with the same powers?!?!?" But, after doing a bit of searching I see that Kamala is actually a shape shifter kinda like Mr. Fantastic. (I guess we'll find out if Marvel can get stretching powers in a movie right after everyone has failed miserably.) But what really has me worried and could finally give DC their opening is that Miss Marvel seems to be one of Marvels latest SJW super heroes, which I believe is destroying their comics book brand. So far, the Marvel movie universe has been able to stay pretty A-Political which is admirable given the political leanings and rants of so many of their stars. If they decide to start pushing a political agenda with their movies, I think things will start to go down pretty fast. If that DOES happen, I'm sure they'll blame it on super hero fatigue and not the real problem of them alienating half their audience. Keeping my fingers crossed that if they do introduce Kamala, that she's a great super hero and they leave the political preaching in the comics books and out of the movies. |

In the 4th season of "Avengers Assemble" (re-titled "Avengers: Secret Wars" for that season), the animated TV series featured both Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel as a part of the New Avengers. (Wasp is in there, too, along with Black Panther, Vision, and Ant-Man.)

To add to that, DC comics also had a superhero of Jewish persuasion called Seraph. As far as his abilities, I guess he could be compared with Doctor Fate.
I have just one issue of him. To tell you the truth, though, the real reason I bought that issue was because of the guest appearance made by Plastic Man. This has one of my favorite scenes involving Plaz. That is, an assailant kicks Plaz in his face. It totally obliterates Plastic Man's facial features with the result being a deep 3-inch depth indentation of the assailant's footprint. 3 inches might not sound deep, but it is when someone's face has "caved in"! |

By coincidence, DC comics has revived Plastic Man. To be released in June, next month.
