Can anyone recommend any seance-like effects that could be performed outside under street lights while strolling?
I already think the haunted key, a Haunted deck, and the spirit bell could work. What others? Thanks. -Robert |

Gostone23, it is all about Presentation/Story.
It is how you script the effect. I assume you already do Strolling. Take what you already know and switch it up. If you do a coin vanish: use a talisman,medallion... Mentalism: You are told by your spirit guide... And, so on.

See my post about my Puppet routine in this forum. I've done it in restaurants at tables and on the street. The story works outside of a "spooky setting".

As Godzilla has said, presentation is the key, but haunted keys and pendulums are good. Voodoo dolls can be adapted to be presented well. Lebanon circle's memento mori could give you spirit slates on the go. Rising ropes, most pk effects, suicide hotel from hotle you could manage strolling. But mainly think about things you do already that can be handled outside, without a table if necessary, and where wind isn't going to blow everything away. Some one did write a pdf I'm sure on ghost hunts and effects, but I can't remember the name right now.

Thanks everyone! I will follow up on these ideas.
And Joshua J (or anyone else...) if you can remember the name of the Ghost hunts and effects pdf, that sounds very interesting. I love the look of all of Lebanon Circle's stuff, so I will check into Memento Mori ... Marc Charisse's Slates- http://dennymagic.com/store/school-spiri......sse.html look really nice too. Thanks. -Robert |

I always added a joke to the start of my strolling magic for effect and to focus attention. I'd state that young girls are so rude these days. Then I'd say that I saw a really good looking girl and offered my heart. at this point I'd pull a realistic heart from my jacket pocket. Then I'd say, "But she gave me the finger." Then I'd pull out a severed finger. This gives everyone a laugh and gets their attention focused on what you do next, which is your routine.

I don't have it, but outlaw's 13 ghosts sounds like it could be great
for this? Prof BC wrote a stellar review for it in the crypt. |

Just found this perfect thread and its perfect for an upcoming event I am preparing for. I will be doing walk around for the local high school Grad Night lock in. I need 4 strong spooky effects that can be done strolling and must have instant reset. Vlad suggested Paul Praters FREAKS. I think I might go with that for one.
I was thinking maybe BC's Haunted Inns also. Definately will be using Directors Cut-Horror edition. Maybe Tim Wissemans remote viewing cube (although it doesn't fit in the pocket real well, kind of bulky for a pocket). Perhaps Outlaws RELIC (which hand). Maybe Boris the Spider cell phone ap. I really like Diary of a Mad Man (coloring book effect with blood by Daniel Greenwolf). The book would mean I would need to carry a bag, not sure I want to do that. Any other suggestions from my spooky brothers? I appreciate the help! |

Steven, use your T.O.D. ! Hand out latex gloves to participants, before allowing them to touch !
They're cheap and will add to the realism and concern for their health! LOL ~G

All of your ideas are good, and would probably play well for high school seniors. But I have to tell you, I performed for my son's swim team friends in high school several times, and the effect that got the most animated reaction was Boris the Spider. It was literally like watching a YouTube video seeing not only my volunteer jump, but everyone around her or him. Believe me...I realize this is a low brow trick. But teens love it as it's creepy, and also involves some believable technology. I also had great luck with Bruised, blister effects, and the good old fashioned ashes on the arm. These are all visceral effects which I think, play well to this age group.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

I'm in the minority. You can do strolling effects that use the supernatural as a presentation device. But seance-like effects? Impossible in a strolling situation. Seance is all atmosphere. It needs a contained environment, low light or darkness, stretches of time where nothing overt happens, silent moments where the sitters feel their own heartbeat. Can't be done in bright light going from table to table. The way I view it, seance takes time for the atmosphere to develop.

'Zilla, I tried to edit my post but can't now. I think it is possible to evoke spirits under street lamps while walking along through the night. I read the word "strolling" and the word "tables" got stuck in my head! Before I knew it I was in a restaurant!

Thanks for all the ideas, I just love it here in the Café!
And as far as venues, this is certainly not optimal (by any stretch of the imagination). However, it is a great way to really practice things in repetition. A good way to focus on performance and study reactions. It will be fun and I assure you, the dead will speak! |

Steven, another thought.
At this high school Grad Night lock in, there may be loud music playing most of the night. You may need to find out how it is set up, if you do not already know. It would be hard to go through a wonderful script/performance if you can't be heard. With that being said, you may have to resort back to some of your old magic tricks, with a Spooky twist. Using as much visual as possible. (loops, gorpy and things like that) And, yes it should be great practice at many levels !
