Paul sent regular mail which means it takes a little longer.
"The New York Papers," Mark Twain once said,"have long known that no large question is ever really settled until I have been consulted; it is the way they feel about it, and they show it by always sending to me when they get uneasy. "

If I'd have known that I would have waited and got from my local dealer.

Same Iain, I thought Paul was only selling them for the time being, now gutted to see UK dealers stocking it and mine probably hasn't even got to the UK yet, oh well

Daren, we'd probably have been better off waiting, as goodness knows how long it will take to arrive in the UK during Christmas. Since Paul's shipping was free, I don't imagine he will have sent it express mail.
Although, I think it's generally right to support the creator directly, I think Paul could have done better with keeping us all updated. I assumed the book was on the way almost a month ago. It wasn't until I saw this thread and realised that Paul had held it up due to piracy prevention. I still haven't received any shipping confirmation, so all I have to go off is Paul's post on this thread. |

Received mine today!
Paul amazes me with his attention to detail. His teaching style leaves absolutely nothing to chance. At first glance, the effects themselves are ALL worth the effort it will take to learn them. I look forward to my holiday schedule settling down so I can simply sit down and read/study this wonderful book. |

Well, then merry christmas to all you lucky ones (and to the rest, too of course). No book here. I guess that means I have to finish one of those other five books I bought recently. Shame...

This will be an extremely biased review. Paul Vigil is a close friend and magical confidant. When I’m in Vegas (at least 4 times a year) Paul and I will get together to hang out, talk shop and chill. We have shared ideas, routines, methods and laughs over the past several years. Although we demonstrate almost polar opposite performing styles, we share a lot of similar ideas and approaches to selecting material and the presentation of that material. I was in the audience at least half a dozen times at his, sadly now defunct, weekly show at the Mirage Resort & Casino. To witness one of Paul’s performances is to understand the rumors, hype, mystery and genius that surrounds him in and outside of the magic community. There are the sorry few who do not ‘get’ him or the magic he creates, but for the thinking magician or magic fan, Paul Vigil is an epiphany. A valued treasure. A modern shaman. And someone I personally absorb as much from as I possibly can - whenever Paul is willing to share.
Which brings us to Paul’s new book, The Classic Fantastic. There’s a multiply selection routine, endless chain routine, prediction effect and a poker (reading) demonstration. I have seen all these performed live over the course of several years and seen them develop into certifiable, performable masterpieces. If you have an interest in any one of these types of classic plots or routines you simply MUST purchase Paul’s work on them. Because what Paul has done is distill and decant every one of them into their very essence. Leaving us, with what can only be described as, perfection. And I’m not joking. And I’m not stroking the ego of good friend. These are sublime. And like the good student that Paul is everything in the book is cross referenced, footnoted and heavily described in intricate detail. (I’m sure Jared Kopf, a strong magical artist in his own right, who edited the text, had a hand in this as well.) In a bleak magical landscape of Youtube tutorials, instant downloads, unrehearsed, unreferenced, unoriginal and un-performable pieces of overhyped sh*t - Classic Fantastic is an oasis of well written, well constructed, well thought out routines, ideas and methods. Unequivocally recommended. -Bill Abbott |
