In looking for a set of locking coins for the $2.85 trick, I checked Amazon.
I found the effect manufactured by MAK magic and also one by Tango. The one by MAK magic is under $50.00, whereas the others are considerably more expensive. Before I buy, I'm wanting to ask here: Does anybody have any info about MAK magic, as far as their quality standards? I don't want to order and then be sorry for buying junk. But I know nothing about MAK magic and the quality of their products. Can anybody help me out?

MAK? Quality...? Ok... Once again I will step aside and await the responses.....

Their quality is "ok"? You mean fair? Average? Nothing to write home about?

I'm looking for a bargain. A good price. But I don't want to get burned. So I'm enquiring here before I spend bucks on what appears to be a bargain but turns out to be junk.

I used to have a set. It was lost or stolen. I don't remember the manufacturer. But I think I payed in the $80.00 range for it.

$45.00 sounds much sweeter and tempting, of course. What is Tango's track record for quality?
Logically, all versions are going to have to be the same, as far as how they work. How many ways can you nest several coins inside a silver dollar? What I'm wanting to avoid is the possibility of a set that just falls apart on me.

Some years back when they were just getting started, Tango's reputation wasn't so good, but over the past couple/few years I think it's pretty decent. I have a couple of their products, and have no complaints. If you should run into a problem, "Mr. Tango" frequents the Café and seems genuinely concerned that any issues that may occur with his products are properly addressed.
As for "versions", I can think of two basic types -- one that requires a bang ring, and one that can be "levered" open. |

The one I previously owned required a bang ring. With the seal as tight as it is, my mind is not imagining how you could lever it open. You mean pry it open with a tool of some sort?

Do you know if the Tango item uses the bang ring or the levering open method? I'm still fuzzy on how you can "lever open " a locked, nested coin. Do you have to like use some sharp object to insert somehow in the edge of the coin?
