Well,

This is my first year in college, and I have to do a case study for English, and I thought it would be interesting to do something on magic other than the usual pollution, child abuse etc..

Can you guys recommend any good topic that would be worth a research?

Cheers,
Jul

How about the facts behind the myths?

e.g. Who are the twelve(?) people who have died performing the bullet catch?

or

Did a magician really win a war? - here's a little Magic Café intro to this:

I think a good case study would be "ethics in magic."
The only stupid question is the one not asked.

An interesting topic would be magic throughout the world. What is the difference between magic performed in the U.S. and magic performed in Japan (not much of a difference NOW but in the past, it was). Also, the many REACTIONS to magic from different regions, religions, etc.

Good luck with the project!

Maybe even do something about the psychology that goes hand in hand with magic.

I would do magicians of the past and how their tricks compare to now. What are similar even with new technology? A history of how people pay people to deceive them as entertainment (deceive in the good way).

This may not be what you are looking for at all but since it is an English assignment and I teach English I would suggest this. Go to punoftheday.com to get a good idea of how "bending" words can be both funny and effective for performers accross the board from magicians to comedians to actors to musicians. Then since it is an English assignment discuss how we use language not only to communicate but also to entertain, create atmosphere and create emotions while we do magic.
Hope this helps
Cheers

I would go with this topic. I wrote the exact thing in my English class and my teacher said it was a great topic.

Try it out,
