If you're talking about Steve Brooks' P.M.s they are a revenue stream for the Café.
This keeps the Café free for me to use. I just check to see if I'm interested and go on about my business. The ads disappear in a while. I Don't have a problem with it. If I got an ad from someone other than The Café in a P.M. I would be bothered. -Mary Mowder |

LOL!! I agree with both of you. I hate the ads, but I'm glad this place is free. It's sort of a necessary evil.

The ads are not "flashed before you." When you log in, you get a sign that says you have a "private message." (Nine times out of ten, you know it's going to be an ad) IF you choose to click on the private message icon, you get a list of messages which make it very clear they are ads, you then have to click ON the ads to actually see them. In no way are they "flashed before you."

I don't mind the advertising in private messages from Steve Brooks - this place is pretty good about not shoving popup banners etc in your face, so just click to delete the prompt and move along - no big deal.
Never criticize someone else until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Then, when you do criticize them, you will be a mile away from them and you will have their shoes.

The private message sign is magical.

I think they are cool, as there are things I have never seen in card magic, which is what interests me.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

I like clicking on the banners too. Lots of good items on those sites too!

Understand, but my point is that another "banner" would help avoid confusion. Some of us do use the message system to converse privately on the Café. For us it is a bit (not earth shaking by any means) of an intrusion to be told you have a "private message" when it is, instead, an ad. This never bothered me much either, but it seems to be getting much worse.
Secondly, if it is an ad, say so up front. Steve has many times had something to say that was important to me, and I would hate to skip over something important. For now, however, I guess I will just have to ignore "private messages" because I find it aggravating...

If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000

I know what you mean. After seeing the latest PM alert I felt compelled to go buy milk at the Co-Op a block away. I know what you are thinking, you think I was planning on buying milk which is true; but not the no sugar added dark Cavalier chocolate and a bag of Kitco potato chips. Who knew PM's could be fattening!
