How ironic, yesterday Parliament had been scheduled to debate Bill C-42 - An Act to amend the Firearms Act.
I'm honestly not sure what all that Bill covers, but I doubt that Harper's government ("more right-wing than any in memory") was aiming to tighten gun laws in any serious way. Although it appears that at least elements of the pro-gun lobby are not really supportive of this Bill, so who knows.

More unexpected fallout from yesterday:
http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/10/23/......g-scene/ http://bc.ctvnews.ca/sun-news-reporter-f.......2068133 It may be worth pointing out to our foreign (i.e. non-Canadian) readers that the National Post is one of the most conservative newspapers in Canada, founded by a wealthy capitalist (i.e. Conrad Moffat Black, Baron Black of Crossharbour, life peer of the British House of Lords, and convicted felon in the United States for fraud) robber baron (kidding about the robber baron bit, sort of), and even it was taking Sun News TV to task. Sun News TV is like a grittier, lower budget, version of Fox News and it has a viewership numbering in the single digit thousands. With reporters like the guy in the story above, no wonder only 0.1% of Canadian television viewers watch it.

I imagine gun bans for drug possession would also prevent ownership for innumerable people who would never kill or unlawfully shoot anyone, too, though I'm sure there are many here who don't much care about that.

Since World War II the CIA have controlled the Nazi spy network, which includes the Muslin Brotherhood and its incredibly complex web of front foundations world wide, out of which radicals spring some which are lose cannons. Organised radicals normally use bombs in my neck of woods and one using a gun might indicate a radical lose cannon. While the British Home Secretary does have powers such as to exclude a non-British citizen from the UK where she considers that the individual’s presence in the UK would not be conducive to the public good, it still is very difficult to rid ones country of the Nazi spy network fronts since they operate under various benign cloaks. The good news is both the British and the Canadians are now debating how to close them down without upsetting the CIA and innocent Muslims. When the authorities go about trying to close down the Muslin Brotherhood fronts it will cause a terrific amount of political fall out. These fronts will sue, call the authorities racist and so on. Anyway these lose cannons etc will continue to pop up out of these front foundations on regular basis everywhere so long as the Nazi spy network exists.

You're so close, yet so far. They depend on racism, xenophobia, and Islamophopia so that they can continue to scare the populace and create a demand for Big Brother. And loose cannons will appear as long as people and their families are bombed, tortured, and exploited. Then Big Brother can point and have another round of bombing, torturing, and exploiting.

As a Canadian, I am touched by most of the reaction at home and abroad.
Unfortunately, it has also been another excuse for politicians to wrap themselves in the flag, pretend that they are fighting terrorism by making content-free speeches, and promising actions that will be popular but damaging. Russell Brand hits this nail on the head.

While there are concerns about some individual members of the Nazi Muslim Brotherhood and its fronts nothing has emerged to link the Brotherhood as an institution to any acts of terrorism some say. Which is just how the benign fronts are meant to work of course. Any authority which attacks these institutions leaves themselves open to charges of slander and so on. Openly the front foundations says it supports democratic principles, peace etcetera while behind the scene unofficially radicalising useful idiots. Lose canons spring out of these front foundations and commit murder and so on. At the same we have the CIA in control of this Nazi spy network using other radical from these foundation to wage holly war and so on on their enemies, communists etc. So how does a country like Canada rid themselves this problem? We have the CIA setting up mine camps all over place training, arming, funding the radicals and calling them moderate rebels. At the same using fear of terrorists, giving themselves more power and stealing every-bodies freedom. Heads are rolling in the street! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_qgVn-Op7Q

Thanks for the clip, John. Here's a bit of my own analysis of Stephen Harper's speech, which I posted on facebook the other night. Wasn't popular, much. Didn't even get any objections. http://www.cjme.com/story/text-prime-min......g/432793
This is a transcription of the speech delivered by Prime Minister Stephen Harper from an undisclosed location hours after the shooting in Ottawa that killed Cpl. Some background on the War Memorial:
"The armed forces have served as sentries at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier during July and August since 2007 — a year after three young men were photographed urinating at the monument on Canada Day and caused a national outcry — especially from veterans groups. Outrage heightened when the Citizen published a front-page photograph of the incident, and it moved then newly minted Prime Minister Stephen Harper to phone an area radio station. 'Obviously, it’s a terrible thing to do,' said Harper. 'Certainly, my impression is that doesn’t represent in any way the views of any segment of Canadian society.' Those skateboarding and pulling bicycle wheelies in and around the monument also contributed to the decision to have a greater military presence at the site and to re-enforce the message that the site was to be treated with dignity rather than as a public playground." http://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news......-dignity |

I'm afraid I don't understand your critique. Are you saying that each person prevented from owning a gun because of a past drug possession would have killed someone? Or something?
