I really am not sure if this is Bizzare Magic material. But it could be! So anyway to the point.. Who likes sword swallowing? I've just got into it.

Yes please, I'd like to see some more on this. I know they sell the gimmicked swords at more than a few places.

REAL sword swallowers don't use gimmicked swords.
Back during the early days of the Texas Renaissance Festival, Johnny Fox and I went to one of the Asian import stores in Houston that carries the big aluminum swords that are all one piece -- hilt and all. He always carried his cleaning cloth in his hip pocket. So he looked at one of the swords that these people had in stock, wiped it off and swallowed it. The clerk's eyes got as big as saucers!!!! She and her friend were chattering about 90 MPH (for my German friends, that's 145 KPS) in Vietnamese. They told their boss that he had swallowed the sword. The boss asked him to do it again. He said "Do what?" "Swallow it." "Are you kidding? You could get hurt doing that!" Then we left.

I've just recently gotten into looking into sword swallowing and would love to learn, there is a guy that works at our local theatre and I guess as a gimmick for the theatre he swallows a rod (cuz you can't have a sword in there I guess) before your movie starts, I asked him to teach me but he told me he doesn't teach anyone then I told him alittle about my fire arts. is there any way to teach yourself from a book or online? I want to be safe about it tho since it's dangerous but I don't know of anyone else that does this, maybe someone at the renaissance fest. near me does it and will be willing to teach me but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

There are people out there willing to teach, but will be weary at first, because of the danger involves, lawsuits, etc, I guess. Let them know how serous you are, will not hold them liable and so on, and mabe they'll teach. Look at http://www.swordswallow.com and that should start you off.
Krista An after thought, NEVER learn from a book or online! There are resources yes, but there's bound to be misinformation. It's best to find someone that is willing to teach one on one. |

Thanks jennieprice for the link I found it on a search also and I've been looking at it and reading alot. I don't want to learn it by myself and if I can't find someone to teach me then I won't do it.
