I am greatly saddened to post that master figure maker Ray Guyll passed away yesterday after a long illness. I've always referred to Ray as "the Stradivarius" of figure makers. He did a remarkable makeover of my old Finis figure Oscar (in my avatar) and transformed him from kind of ugly to gorgeous. Oscar gets oohs and aahs whenever I first take him out.
A brief story about his level of craftsmanship. After Ray had his cataracts repaired a few years ago, he requested that I send Oscar back to him for a free re-paint. He told me he realized that with his cataracts he had not seen colors well and had painted Oscar too bright. He wanted to get the color right now that he could see better. When Oscar came back to me after his re-paint he looked better than ever. Ray once told me that he had worked on the figures of the greatest ventriloquists of the 20th century--Bergen, Winchell, Nelson, and Dunham. He made the very first José Jalopeño on a Stick. I will miss Ray for his artistry and friendship. However, I know that every time I take Oscar out Ray's light will shine again. Bob |

I knew nothing of this fine sounding gentleman.
However, please convey my condolances to his family and friends if you can. Ray - R.I.P. SIR ! Bobby Thomson. |

Very sorry to hear this. Ray was extremely great at figure building and repair and I met him through Jimmy Nelson. I had always wanted him to repair my Quisto figure but he was difficult to get ahold of. RIP Ray.
