Hey guys,
just wondering what you think is the best cheap set of cups to perform with. At the moment I'm looking at the Cups & Balls Aluminum Regular by Bazar de Magia: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S5220 Any reviews or comments? Thanks Oli |

Don't overlook eBay in your search. If you're persistent, you can hit some great deals.

Remember the cups that you use aren't really that important. You can use paper cups if you wish. Michael Skinner would at times perform with coffee Cups. Daniel Cros used Paper cups with the Pepsi Logo printed on them. The Bazar de Magia cups should be fine to start out with as well.

My first set was a Bazar de Magia copper chopped set. Actually I still use them! Very decent set of cups.

For the price, the Bazar de Magia aluminum set is a good set. They tend to sell for around $40 at most other sites. Good deal at penguin, at $25. I have a set. They are noticeably better and larger than the cheap $15 set I have. They are light (aluminum), and a bit smaller than most higher priced sets. They have a more pronounced indentation on the bottom than my $15 set, which is nice for holding the ball when the cup is sitting upside down. For the price, you might find an equal, but would have a hard time doing better.

Yeah the guys at penguin suggested them, I just want a nice starter set before I get a higher quality set in a few years

Bob Salari sells some stainless steel ones right now for $16.95. They have gotten good reviews.
Reality is a real killjoy.

My BdeM set were great value I was a little bit rough on them and now they don't all stack perfectly. Great for limes. I really like mine but recently got a set of Phoenix cups.
Still going to use mine from time to time |

Personally, in my years of magic, my concern would be to spend time on your presentation rather than monies on a set of cups. Save your monies and invest your time in your presentation.
Some of the best presentations use using ordinary/ everyday different types of cups. |

I have a brass set by Premium Magic. They cost me 40 bucks, stack fairly well, came with a bag and some cheap balls and will hold a pretty good size final load. They're a little tall looking, but part of paying for more higher priced cups is the height deception built into the design. I got what I paid for. I don't use the balls that came with them anymore, but 3 Brett Sherwood balls will nest perfectly and sit on top when revealed.
I've been fairly hard on them, not crazy, but I practice cup through cup moves and drop them and whatnot and they still look very nice. I think these were a good beginner set for me personally. My main instruction was CCIM by Mark Wilson, but I just bought Complete Cups and Balls by Michael Ammar and a Mikame wand. I think I'll be set for a good while for learning and even performing. Eventually I want to get a set of Sherwood cups, but until I can afford them, these will work very well. I think it was well worth it to spend in this price range for learning and I don't feel bed performing with them. Theodore-

You could always make your own set, the local Dollar store or some grocery stores sell plastic cups.

I use a Bazar de Magia Chop cup I bought from PropDog. I am still quite new to Cups but it has travelled all over Europe with me over the past few years, been dropped a number of times and once used buy a confused Italian barman as a drinking receptacle. It still looks like new and works everytime.

Go over to Wal-Mart and look for their "party cups." They are a knockoff of the famous Solo "Big Red Cup." but they are molded in thicker plastic. They come in three different sizes.
