Earlier this year I made 4 predictions. I’m thinkin I did pretty good.
1. Duck Dynasty will leave A&E and find a new network. 2. Guardians of the Galaxy will be the biggest blockbuster this year. 3. Obamacare will be the gift that keeps on giving causing 3a Republicans to pick up seats in the House 3b Republicans to either take control of the Senate or pick up additional seats. I would say that 3 out of 4 is a pretty strong hit rate, especially considering that at the time there were strong sentiments against Guardians of the Galaxy doing well and many people claiming the right had shot itself in the foot and would do terrible in the 2014 elections. (disclaimer: This is NOT meant to turn into a political discussion, it is strictly about the accuracy of predictions made nearly a year ago.) |

But had GOTG come out in 2013 instead of 2014 it would have only been fourth at the box office (after Iron Man 3, Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and Despicable Me 2). All of which earned significantly more than GOTG did. BTW, Hunger Games: Catching Fire came out in late November of 2013 and made nearly $400 million before the end of that year. GOTG has made only about $330 million. Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is out in less than two weeks. So don't count your chickens before they hatch.

I've no opinion on the matter, just reposting what some industry people are predicting:
http://www.inquisitr.com/1578726/the-hun......of-2014/ Advance tickets for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 went on sale this Wednesday and they are already breaking records. MovieTickets.com, Fandango, and AMC Theaters have all reported that first-day presales for the latest installment of the Hunger Games franchise have surpassed that of any other film released this year, according to the Wrap. MovieTickets.com also mentioned that first-day presales for Mockingjay doubled the amount Catching Fire made in its first day of presales. AMC Theaters is reporting that many fans are purchasing tickets for the Hunger Games marathon, which will show the first two films on November 20 beginning at 2 p.m. This marathon will take place at 250 AMC locations nationwide. Box Office Mojo is predicting that the latest installment of the Hunger Games franchise could be the highest grossing film of 2014. That title currently belongs to Guardians of the Galaxy, which has earned $328.8 million. Seeing as how the first Hunger Games film earned $408 million domestically while the second brought in $427 million, there’s a good chance that it could happen.

But will it make that much money before the end of the year?

And actually if you look, internationally, Transformers has done quite a bit better. So I guess number 1 prediction has to have an asterix by it.

I was 100%. Made no predictions. Why mess with a perfect record.
Plus to be fair you really didn't pick tough things to foresee.

At the start of the college football season I told a bunch of SEC fans that a Pac 12 team would be in the championship game; their reply was that Pac 12 fans say that every year, and that they planned on an all-SEC championship game.
They were off by two teams; I was off by zero teams. |

By the way, Guardians was a great movie.

You should read some of the predictions on GOTG by major reviewers the start of the year. Here's one example: http://www.fool.com/investing/general/20......vel.aspx And you should have read the responses and counter predictions here about the political predictions by our friends on the left. (Remember, this was shortly after last years shutdown when the left was crowing about the damage done to the republicans by themselves.) |

I only made one prediction, that the Seattle Seahawks would win the Superbowl ... but I was wrong.
However, I'm willing to make a prediction for this year: All the usual suspects (myself included) will forfeit "getting a life" in favor of continuing to waste our valuable time posting on this forum. |

It's a good thing I wasn't talking about how much money a movie released in 2014 made AFTER 2014 ended. American Sniper may well beat BOTH Guardians AND Hunger Games and I doubt ANYONE saw that one coming.
(Based on it's production budget, it looks like it's already more profitable than either!) |
