I can't agree with your assessment of Wonder Silk in Balloon. It falls short in the handling with the death grip on the balloon, and never moving or letting go of the same spot on the balloon. Having to use small silk(s) is another draw back if being done on stage.
Ryota's first offering of the Floating Balloon was pure gold, but this second offering is not up to his 1st. Good show, just not as good products as the last couple of weeks. |

Finally, back to old strength! I do enjoy it so much more with Craig on the show, it's just more entertaining. Sean is fun too, but Craig is more original. They should do turns! Good show and I am looking forward to Craig’s involvement.

On/Off
Can't for the life of me see the hype. As was stated in a later offering as something being "so blindingly obvious at the outset" this just left me cold. Would this fool adults? seriously? Okay, maybe it did in the clip. So let me re-phrase - would this honestly fool UK audiences? It's literally over in 3 seconds and to my mind, wouldn't fool my 10 year-old nephew. In fact, I'll get him to watch it at the Weekend. £23.96 for this? Seriously? You don't even get the ring! It's the type of thing that's only fit for being the filler in a set of lecture notes. Honestly, it looks utter tripe. But no doubt there will be the lemmings queuing up to buy this with cash waving in their (Hidden) hands. Manoj Bottle Said this before with other things penetrating into bottles. Firstly, if the bottle is plastic, it loses out instantly over a bottle made of glass. Anything that penetrates the bottle, that by it's pure physical nature can be bent/folded in some way to fit inside a bottle also detracts from the effect. To this end, and nobody will convince me otherwise, the very best item in bottle remains the humble coin in bottle. It's a BORROWED item (apparently), that penetrates into a GLASS bottle - and can be cleanly shown (dependent obviously upon the quality of your particular gimmick). It defies the laws of physics how it's possible AND has stood the test of time for something like 80+ years. I wonder why? And then we come onto this abomination. Anyone with even a basic idea of magic can imagine what you get upon opening the package. The trick itself - nothing much to add other than what Craig and Dave said about its lack of practicality; and its non-ability to fool. All I would add is that the penetration itself was not in any way convincing, nor clean in its execution. But at the end of the day, whilst the automatons within magic continue to buy these brainfarts (many of which are produced by Sans Minds) then utter rubbish such as this will continue to be marketed. Silk in baloon Quite a nice effect BUT one reservation. When the silk begins to penetrate, and is a third of the way inside, that's basically it in my view - the effect is then over. To take it out, then put it back in is simply overkill. The audience have passed that 'wow' moment. And the performer has committed an apparent cardinal sin of magic - they've got greedy with a method or principle. Another reservation that I have with this trick. It's probably fair to say that a creator of a magical effect should be able to perform it faultlessly. They've worked it, and hopefully honed it to the point of utter perfection. So in contrast to this - oh my word; the handling and flashing of 'the necessary' in the demo clip was truly woeful. Surely I'm not the only one to have noticed it? Yes, it's a nice effect for stage (or even 'parlour') but if that's the best its creator can perform it in close-up, then I can't begin to imagine how this is going to be butchered my so many others. Thanks for the show. Loved the honesty (and rants) returning.

Great show, nice to see the good cop bad cop routine in action again!
Actually found this show more pertinent to me than most, in the fact that it presented: 1) an effect I hadn't heard of or seen, simply for consideration 2) one I had seen, knew I was being conned, and verified by the review 3) a trick I have been excited about, and verified by the review All of this, of course, is subject to the added comments both pro and con from the Café, but a nice belly rub reaction for the moment. |

Or even a 'pro' being 'con' Stempleton?
Sounds good to me!

When driving a nail, you pick a spot and stay with it until the nail is in. The fact that you can then let go and let them examine - and keep - the balloon really sells this big time, IMO, and is going to surprise many who assume "OK, there's something about that spot on the balloon..." Prior to all of that, while you're blowing it up, the specs don't have a clue what the effect is going to be, so it doesn't matter where the supporting hand is. This looks like a darn near perfect visual effect, to me, right up there with the newspaper tear. Great to have Craig back. It's much more "Abbott and Costello" than "two hip chillsters" with him on. Hope he makes good on the idea of becoming a field test correspondent.
Now appearing nightly in my basement.
