An third Nicholas Lawrence/SansMinds release in what seems like a week. I think this looks really interesting. This strays away from the usual torn and restored corner effect, I would definitely show this to my magic buddies, this looks insane!

Now THAT is innovative! *** that is a weird effect! I wonder if the corner at the end still shows the pip or is part of the middle.

When someone gets this let us know if he credits Daniel Garcia. This uses a very similar concept to his Torn Too effect.

Stucky...the real credit should go to Doug Bennett if anyone. I was with DG when we were playing with the concept from Business Merger years and years ago but with cards and that turned into his clever Torn Too effect Smile

Knowing how this is done, but really liking the idea of the torn corner moving, instead of a restoration, thus leaving an impossible object with the spectator,is a big plus in my opinion.
I see no reason to just use playing cards,in fact,if done with business cards, they have that impossible object, but with your cantact info as well.
Doing it that way, could get more gigs me thinks...

Title: Spaceshifter
Creator: Nicolas Lawrence
Publisher: SansMinds
MSRP: $25
Skill Level: ALL
DVD Run time: 39 min

Type of effect: Torn & Restored Card, with a twist

Manufacturer's Write Up:
Imagine getting your spectator to select a card and sign it. A corner of the card is torn off for the spectator to keep in one hand. Your spectator holds onto the card in the other hand. With a snap of the finger, the 'space' of the missing corner visually jumps to the center of the signed card. The corner your spectator is holding, also changes to fit into the 'space'.

How accurate is the ad copy?
Very accurate, this is exactly what happens

What's in the box?
A DVD

Key points:
Space Shifter is a piece of extremely visual eye candy. The visual is so strong, even perform with no presentation, spectators freak out every single time!

My thoughts:
It's a torn and restored that stays torn! It's a corner tear with a twist! I don't know how else to describe it, there's nothing else like it on the market!

Is it well taught:
Almost 40 minutes for a single effect? Yea, it's well taught. Every rock is overturned. "Herman" from Sansminds Magic walks you painstakingly every aspect of this effect

How are the production values: 39 minutes long, HD, nice background music and video effects, this is a well taught product.

Overall score: 8/10

REVIEW OF SPACE SHIFTER
RATING: 4.5 of 5 Stars

Space Shifter is one of three recent Nicholas Lawrence creations released by Sans Mind Magic.

In Space Shifter, the spectator picks a card as the performer is riffling through a deck of cards. It is signed and the performer apparently rips the corner of the card and hands it to the spectator. As the spectator pulls the card from the performer’s hands, the torn corner instantly visually appears, where it was visibly absent a moment earlier, and a hole that matches the torn piece of the card that the spectator is holding astonishingly moves to the middle of the card.

This trick comes with a DVD, which gives clear instruction on how to build the necessary gimmicks to perform this trick. The gimmicks only take a few minutes to make and you will need some supplies that you will likely already have if you have made some simple gimmicks before.
You can repeat this trick with different cards, but will need to do some pre-strolling gimmick making to accomplish different cards. The card with the hole in it is a great souvenir. I have found that spectators react very strongly to this effect.

If you like the promotional video, you will like this trick. It is fair and accurate. Although the ad copy may not be technically accurate, it is accurate in that it describes what the spectator sees and believes they see.

Although this trick is easy to perform, you should practice it for a short while so the movements are fluid and so you don’t flash anything that will ruin the illusion, because there are some angles to be careful of with Space Shifter. Also, I would not perform this trick in the brightest of rooms because the gimmick may be more visible in intense light. However, this trick is all about the presentation and patter and you will be able to misdirect your spectators from the things that could expose the method.

I highly recommend Space Shifter.

It will still show the pip, though in truth it should show the middle if they have really swapped places..I think it will fly though
pretty easy to work out, but nice idea.

No... you obviously don't have the effect. The corner does match the middle, and does NOT show the pip. Get the effect before jumping to conclusions. This is an incredibly strong piece of magic which I use everyday! Thanks Smile

sorry, bit of misunderstanding, I am talking about the restored corner, the corner of the card that is restored making the card whole again, not the fact that the spare piece matches the new hole in the card.
it is obvious how the effect is achieved, two gaffs are in play, the one you and the spec hold, and the one face down on top of the deck.
best leave it there Smile
remember this forum is all about jumping to conclusions..

To clarify my point further, if this was real magic, the restored corner would show the bit from the middle of the card, and the bit in the middle would show the corner pip - odd looking card I admit, but that is the premise of the effect - you are 'shifting' the corner to the middle, and the middle to the corner - it could be achieved with a printed gaffed card using the exact same method as now, but as stated earlier, it should fly as is - just that the end result does not look like the card that the effect implies should do.
