Special ability due to your extensive training or some special ability you were born with?
Or something else altogether? Or you just smile and keep quiet? I say it comes from my studying really old Martial Arts techniques, when it was really needed in order to escape captivity.

It is a skill set.
This is not completely a lie. Lock Picking for example, is a skill set.

Both are fun if you do it right! |

This is where having significant facial scarring plays to my advantage. I wave my hand (flexibly) vaguely toward the left side of my face and comment "I've developed a few abilities over time." I often get a knowing nod and last week one of the spectators whispered "he's double jointed" to her friend. The scarring is a subtle cue that my skills are hard won (actually, they're surgical scars from a jaw resection and skin graft, but they don't have to know that!)

Then you wouldn't need to explain how or what you do, people can see it.

I prefer full view escapes myself, but I'm still occasionally asked how I do it.

It depends. "Weren't you watching?" "Specialized knowledge". "Hard work". "Sometimes I cannot allow myself to hear the word No". Etc.

Hi Pakar, I am familiar with you being an actor. I have read some of your posts here in the “all tied up” area.
In my mind you seem to be researching for acting the part of escape artist instead of being that escape artist. Your thread titled. ‘The "Emotional Hook" of your Escape Act’ seems to suggest that you want or think there need to be a hook, gimmick, plan, ruse, ploy; or angle to making an escape more interesting or even required. and this thread is “How do you explain your ability to escape restraints if asked?” is a question that someone who has a base knowledge of escape would have already worked out themselves to explain how they do what they do. I have found that the fundamentals of escapes is a somehow inherit within some individuals and not others. Like many other skills, you either have it or not. I cannot be a star tennis player or Olympic swimmer, is not in my DNA. Despite some people reading every book on the subject and buying heaps of equipment some are not good as escape artists. From what I am reading, your approach to the subject seem a little off target. Instead of ‘scripting it’ or trying to follow a mental script of what you think escape are or should be, why not follow your heart?

Who keeps ticking the 'likes' boxes? This subject should be at the bottoms of one interest list.

Well don't.
If you need to draw attention to yourself, become an actor.

Only asked once many moons ago by a BBC reporter. My reply was,,,,,,,,,, all is possible for me as I am the new messiah !!!
Subsequent follow ups were amazing and proved that all even bad publicity works. Of course it was said off the cuff and I took a hell of a chance saying it. Showbiz !!!!! Ken. |
