The tricky thing for me is knowing FOR CERTAIN the release year of these books. Forgive me if any were officially made available in 2013.

1) Pygmalion Effects: Reality as an Art by Aaron Alexander
2) The Marketing Minded Mentalist by David Thiel (Thanks to robvh for the inspiration to add to this thread!)
3) Its a tie between "A Piece of My Mind LE" by Michael Murray AND "Divine" by Colin McLeod

It's been a phenomenal year of releases! There were a handful of other works that were extremely inspiring as well but with only three spots to rank hard decisions had to be made!

It’s tempting to dismiss trade books, like those listed below, as inferior to those published for magicians. Applying this criterion in the past, however, would have slighted estimable works like Scott’s “Discoverie of Witchcraft,” Hoffmann’s “Modern Magic,” Erdnase’s “The Expert at the Card Table,” Elliott’s “Classic Secrets of Magic,” Hay’s “The Amateur Magician’s Handbook,” Hugard’s and Braue’s “The Royal Road to Card Magic” and “The Tarbell Course in Magic” (initially advertised in Popular Mechanics magazine) -- all of which were initially aimed at the general public.

Lastly, over at the Trick of the Year thread, we've managed to research past winners since around 2003 (it's been a bit easier since I took over 4 years ago and it's been more 'official'). I'm wondering if anyone would like to help me research previous Book of the Year winners? I am beyond proud to have been the recipient last year for my own book, "The Approach" but I think it would be amazing to retroactively award the previous years' winners, from 2000-2012. Please PM if you would love to help! Thanks!

Hands down, this was a bumper year. I've thought about it for a long time and I think there were two real stand-outs:

1. Bairn by Kennedy
2. A Piece Of My Mind by Michael Murray

The rest of the field is so evenly matched that I couldn't possibly pick a third.

Having been "Train Tracked" by the man himself, I would have loved to have voted for that, however I haven't bought the book as yet so can't really vote for a book I've not read!!
