Heya Gang!
This is going really well! Thanks for being so awesome! With a little over a week left, here's the latest update: Current leader of The Tarbell VOTES / BOOK NAME / AUTHOR 38 A Piece of My Mind by Michael Murray 21 Train Tracking by Atlas Brookings 9 Divine by Colin McLeod 7 Pygmalion Effects by Aaron Alexander 6 When in Rome by Peter Turner 5 The Devil's Staircase by Greg Chapman 5 Bairn by Ken Dyne 4 Modern Mentalism by Luke Jermay 4 The Marketing Minded Mentalist by David Thiel 4 Art Decko by Simon Aronson 3 Bigger Fish 2 by Peter Turner 3 Olivia by Myke Phillips 2 The Professional Mentalist's Field Manual by Richard Osterlind 2 The Incredible Dr. Jaks 1 Vote Each The Art of the Con by Paul Wilson The Magiculum by Dr Todd Landman What Women Want by John Lovick Master Card Memory by Bob Cassidy Quinta by Phill Smiff Ha, No Jonah by Michael Weber 777 by (author?) Memorandum by Woody Aragon Now You See Them, Now You Don't by Bill Weimer Heads I Win, Tails You Lose by Jheff The Magic Way by Juan Tamariz Mayhew: What Women Want by John Lovick ________________________________________________________ Lastly, over at the Trick of the Year thread, we've managed to research past winners since around 2003 (it's been a bit easier since I took over 4 years ago and it's been more 'official'). I'm wondering if anyone would like to help me research previous Book of the Year winners? I am beyond proud to have been the recipient last year for my own book, "The Approach" but I think it would be amazing to retroactively award the previous years' winners, from 2000-2012. Please PM if you would love to help! Thanks!

Looks like there are 2 votes for What Women Want but with slightly different titles, not that it matters at this stage...
I've just finished reading Quinta, and that has been a really enjoyable book, I found the possibilities it provides very exciting and I think it deserves an honourable mention. |

Number 1, Magica Analytica by Larry Barnowsky
Very original easy to learn effects many of which are based on mathematical concepts never used in magic before. Euler's Force and Arch of Sunzi are worth the price of the book alone. Well illustrated with color photos and diagrams. For those interested in mentalism and prediction effects there is a wealth of material here. This was a limited edition of 150 numbered copies so check his website to see if still available. Number two would be Art Decko by Simon Aronson. Beautiful book with excellent discussions. He never disappoints. David |

Hi people!
Thank you very much for including my "memorandum" in the list, but as it's a book that is being translated to english (with some add-ons that there are not exist in the spanish version) to be published very soon, I think it must be considered as a 2015 book, as only spanish people can read it. No? I'm sure you will like it! I'm very happy with this new book Woody |

Hi Woody,
I'm sure the English version of Memorandum could be listed for 2015 Book of the Year again (and will probably be everyone's favourite!). I really love the book (though I'm still reading super slowly, as my Spanish is only beginner level). Will the add-on materials in the English version be published separately for those who already have the Spanish version? Like An e-book in Spanish? Cheers, Waichung |

Don't know if my vote counts; but if it does I'd like to vote for Pygmalion Effects by Aaron Alexander. Every time I open it I find either a new idea to play with or a shift in mindset. This I believe will be a classic.

A special thanks to Jamie for hosting this competition but most of all my sincere thanks must go to those who took time out to place their votes regardless of who's book you nominated.
A Piece of My Mind was my first official book and writing it was much harder than I had ever anticipated. I'm sure I speak on behalf of all the authors nominated in saying just how much it means to us that you have enjoyed our material. It really makes all those late hours writing worthwhile and keeps us enthused enough to share our thoughts. To celebrate I am going to invest in one of the nominated books which I haven't get bought and I already look forward to reading up on the 2015 nominations Best Wishes to All Michael

On Feb 1, 2015, Jamie D. Grant wrote: Hi Jamie, Great job and congratulations to Michael Murray! FYI, there was voting prior to 2010. Peo Olsson was the guy "in charge" until 2011. I managed it for two years. The 2011 Book of the Year Award was fraught with violations of Café policy such as members voting on books written by magicians who were banned from The Café. Another magician that year was banned because of complaining about the banning. Ughhh. Both of the years that I oversaw it saw some serious trolling by a magician who has been repeatedly kicked off The Café - and this person was a V.I.P. who decided it would be great "fun" to troll for the sake of trolling. These two years were a transition of sorts and it was not fun when I had to remind folks that I was not/am not an "official" Café admin. My metaphorical hat is off to you man as you have done a SPLENDID job!! |
