No doubt some of you have checked out the newest Paul Harris presents effect "Fair Play". This is one of the coolest small gimmicked props I have seen in a long time.... Old school Tenyo cool! I think many Tenyo folks will like it, if it was a Tenyo item we would be raving about it. There is a long thread in Latest and Greatest.

I saw the demo on Wizard Product Review yesterday and was not impressed ... . I agree it might be a very clever gimmick but for some reason I think it looks very akward to have this 'thing' hanging on your keychain. I mean, who has such a weird looking thing with a note in it with him? It screams 'gimmick'. I have read it is examinable and that's a good thing of course, but I know for my audience they will most certainly suspect the 'thing' being gimmicked in a way (because they know I use gimmicks a lot Smile ).

So I prefer the standard Free Will trick with the wooden discs with ESP symbols (http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/4207), it looks less suspicious and it works great, and you can write your prediction on a normal piece of paper at the beginning of the trick.

Of course it is a gimmick Killer but it is a very cool one which us why I called it out... Many of us here have a love of cool gimmicks Smile If you use your logic who carries credit cards in green envelopes or butterflies in white boxes Smile

I have used this a few times as I predominately use mentalism in any performance. It goes over well. I have actually converted a nice leather business card holder to do the effect and just carry the insert which I refer to as a stamp holder. Not having to force any of the items adds a nice layer. I agree the orginal Freewill is good but used right this is better. Now back to Tenyo....Smile

Cheers,

John

I would be more suspicious of wooden discs with ESP symbols on them!

Well Richard you can use (marked) cards Smile But I agree that having 'normal' objects is a nice feature.

And yes John, most of my tricks I perform are gimmicked in a way and pretty unusual looking Smile, heck I'm a Tenyo collector Smile But for this particular item and routine I find it just akward to have this thing on your keychain ... . But like I said before, I didn't buy it because for my particular audience, being students, family and friends, it would not go well because they KNOW I use gimmicks. And they will KNOW the thing is gimmicked even if they can examine it and find nothing. But for other magiciance it could be a great trick Smile

Ah well, perhaps I should give it a try because I'm a bit biased Smile However if I understand correct it is impossible to change what is written on the paper due to the nature of the gimmick. For sure I would need the gimmick to be in Dutch since it will be all the more akward when it is written in English ... .

No worries David, just teasing. Dutch unfortunately is not an option. Kudos to the Harris team though, it is a cool gimmick.

Not sure about the Dutch (or most of the world), but in the US lots of people have stuff hanging off their keychains. Even more in Japan.

Nothing wrong for me with the keychain, It look more natural and ungimmicked than any other designed magic props like for example "wooden discs with ESP symbols". You show this ESP disks and directly people will say "ok magic trick!". This won't happen with a Keychain, and even less when spectators see just a plastic plate with an handwritten text ... What could be gimmicked in there ?? Nothing scream gimmicked for me, all is so simple an clear. In fact I think the exact opposite of Killertweety and that's funny.

Sorry for the duplicate about ESP disks, I read the reply from Richard after post mine... and I had not seen that all already been said.

You need to junk up your keychain David, many tricks you can stick on it! My favorite is Promystics mini MD, until I recently lost it... That is one expensive keychain! Smile

Years ago Ronjo had a series of mini classic effects in brass that went on your keychain...hot rod, snapper, etc.

And there are nice gimmicked keys to go on your gimmicked keychain as well: Porper's Just-A-Key, Rorrison's Linkey, etc...

I'll wait for the French version of Fair Play. Hope they will solve their manufacturing issues in the meanwhile... Smile

Well what can I say after all these comments? Smile Not much, besides I never was aware of ... the full potential of my keychain Smile The more I think about it the more it makes sense.
But as said before, the gimmick won't be available in Dutch, so there is no reason for me to doubt about buying it.

Terrible you lost your MD Mini John! Oh and you're right about Ronjo, but if I'm not mistaking the litle brass keyring effects are still/back available: http://www.ronjo.com/magic/M001198.html . The price is reasonable too. I think Key-Rod, Key-Colors and a Snapper are available.

Simon, I just watched a demo of Porper's Just-A-Key and Rorrison's Linkey - they both seem to do the same or am I missing something? The Porper version is almost 5 x as expensive though ... .

You're right David, but they don't have the same modus operandi... I usually perform the visual penetration with a rubber band (Linkey), make the necessary move to let the spectator examine the key (with no rubber band on it), then do a less visual penetration with Just-a-key but give it to the spectator for a brief examination with the rubber band still linked on it! Both keys are cleverly gimmicked ... Same brand, different colors (silver / brass).

I've never even heard of a key ring that has a scrap of paper somehow hermetically sealed within... but then again who cares?
If you haved them a piece of paper with the prediction it would be cool but I bet to the avereage person the fact that it is sealed in plastic makes it seem that much more impossible.

As far as Dutch is concerned... it's even more amazing! Not only did you make the prediction but you did so almost impossibly in a foreign language as well... they will all be stunned!

OK, maybe not so much...

The keychain looks like something you would carry a photo in so it is plausible. I have seen much weirder things on keychains:-)

I am primairly using this with a leather business card wallet as mentioned above and it has never been questioned.

The keys Simon mentioned are very cool. I first saw Linkey from Simon performing it, looked very cool... Or it might have been the wine Smile
