Hi Guys.

Here is the heads up on my new item.

Do you wish you could do a perfect Mercury Card Fold.... every time? Now you can!

With a few versions of card to box on the market, I will be releasing a valuable new item for the magic fraternity (that includes you as well, mentalist Smile ) Many people have difficulty doing a really good Mercury Card fold and it looks strange when a perfectly folded card in a box becomes a badly folded card when tipped out the box.

Perfect Score is a template and special tool that helps you prepare cards for folding quickly, perfectly and easily into quarters or sixths. Whatever card to box you use, Perfect Score will be a valuable tool to prepare the cards... especially those boxes where the 'card' is perfectly folded inside. While having a signed card folded perfectly to mirror the card in the box is advantageous, you can also use Perfect Score when you simply want any 'folded card revelation' to look good. Personally, I use it for my Destination Box where the card is folded into sixths and for Silent Treatment to create a perfect and slightly flatter folded card.

Many routines involve folded cards that are not revelations in boxes and Perfect Score will be extremely useful for them too. There are, of course, other effects where a scored card will help i.e T & R card. Included in the booklet is an add-a-number prediction routine I use to great effect.

All being well, Perfect Score will be available from December 15th.

May I ask how much this will cost?

Is it not possible to just do it with a ruler/knife? Not being critical thinking or anything, just honestly wondering.

Sashac, you can but that way is not always accurate, especially for sixths. Also, the special tool scores the card just the right amount. template holds the card and the score marks are in the perfect position each time. It makes the task so quick and easy.

Do you score the entire deck that is to be used or is it a device used to secretly score only the signed card after its selection?

Does this mean you are required to f**ce the scored card?

When a card is scored, I'm assuming it is scored on the back. Is that so? And if a card is scored and the card is used for multiple effects, such as in an ambitious card routine, won't the scoring be noticed by spectators? Isn't there already a product on the market that cuts only so deep and can be used for scoring a card? How is this "perfect score" different from that product?

Hi guys,

Happy to answer your queries.

Magicinsight - The template is used to score cards prior to the performance. Tommy oWonder had the idea of scoring an entire deck.

Videoman - if you only score a single card, you will need to force it. As above, you could score the entire deck if you want to. There are so many forces around that one can use and any will work.

Ray - the scoring is done on the back. You can score the card lightly which will not be very noticeable. If you are worried, in the instructions I give several ways to make it less noticeable... Even invisible. It's a bit like invisible thread in that it's the way you handle it.

Ray, I forgot to address the other query you made.

Perfect Score is not just a scoring tool. It is the template that the card sits in to make it a cinch to score cards perfectly into either quarters or sixths very quickly. There are many examples of magicians putting out a product that is readily available in the 'real world' but charging much more than the regular retail price. This is not the case here.

Jon, No, I wasn't accusing you of that. I just thought maybe you didn't know about a non-magic product that is already available which can be used to score a card. I can't remember where I saw it used, or for what. It might have been a torn-and-restored card effect. But the template idea is new. Thanks.

It sounds like a great utility tool for a nice price.

It's a shame to avoid Mercury Fold effects because of the inconsistency of the fold.

This appears to solve that issue if you Mf on a regular basis.

Hi Guys

A couple of people have made me aware of Jon’s product after I have freely shared videos of a similar solution on various forums and I have discussed the technique in lectures since the release of FOB three years ago.

I wouldn’t normally go out of my way to post on another creators thread but I know Jon doesn’t have a problem with this so it gives me the opportunity to put post on here.

In a discussion thread on Full Circle Magic about the difficulty in getting the Mercury Card Fold Precise, I asked if people on the thread would be interested in a technique that I had been using for years. I recorded a video to help the guys out that were being held back by the difficulty and I happily recorded it and shared it for free as part of the discussion.

This is the link to the video for those of you not on that group:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsswYf2__x8

I was delighted when people got something out of it and PM’d me to say how much the tip had helped them out.

It seems an obvious solution to me as I enjoy arts and crafts but I don’t doubt that other people can easily arrive at the same solution. After all, if you want to fold a piece of card neatly it’s common knowledge that you score it first!

In addition to the technique that I shared for free, you may find these knives a bit easier to use that only score one layer of the card. I have recommended them before but it really isn’t necessary.

http://www.levenger.com/pair-of-levenger......421.aspx

As I say it isn’t necessary because after a couple of practices it is very easy to follow the design of the card as a guide (not in the white border though) and score the card anyway you want. This creates the perfect exact fold every time.

I know Jon is very inventive. I love his re-working of ‘Kiss Of The Big Apple’. I am genuinely interested how his techniques, which he judges to be worthy of sale make it any easier. He is a clever guy. He knows what’s going on.

Merry Christmas

Hi David,

True to form. You do make me laugh and many others laugh!

The technique was around way before you were doing it. Tommy Wonder was doing it in the 1990s when he showed Wayne Dobson after appearing on his TV show. Unfortunately, the conversation with Wayne wasn't recorded but I trust Wayne and others have told me about Tommy's idea too. I assume you researched it and have given him credit for the idea? I know how hot you are when it comes to crediting people for their ideas and effects .... I'm not taking any credit for It in my instructions.

Seems like you don't need it anyway. You'll be able to see what I've brought to the table very soon on other dealers' websites.

Cheers,
Jon

Just to clear up all the foggy comments and to bring back their recollection, in the not to distant past.

Tommy Wonder explanation of scoring a playing card with an ad clip out razor device is explained by him on his Lecture DVD, that was marketed by the vey well known English magician Mark Leveridge, if memory serves me right.

It was on video tape, don't know if it was ever converted to DVD.

Hi Jon

Thank you for your attacking and strangly defensive post?

I think you missed the part where I said that I shared it for free to help people out that were discussing how to create the perfect fold. I understand that yours is a product with templates from what I've been told? It was nothing more than a tip for me. Not some great invention (like your templates) and like I have said numerous times to people over the last few days, I am not suprised that other great performers such as yourself Jon have explored this. I am even more delighted to discover that it was Tommy Wonder (my favourite magician) that explored this first.

I will be sure to add the clarification to lectures etc.

Call me any time Jon to chat, Ill get the tape ready!!

Cheers

David

Hi Ray

That is great to know this. Thank you for further clarification Smile

Was it on his main three sets they put out, or another project?

I'd love to get a copy if I don't own it already.

PM me if you like. I don't want to distract from Jon's invention.

Thanks Ray

Instead of watching these kids squabble you could do what I did and actually learn the fold.

We need to stop creating gimmicks to make life easier for people who aren't willing to put in the work.

And, for what it's worth, I actually discussed this with Tommy Wonder in London many years ago. He told me that he didn't always bother to put the work in as he could do a perfect MCF without it. He showed me and it was spot on, that's what made me work harder to get mine right.

He also showed me an ambitious card routine he was working on, don't know if it was ever published but it was perfect...as you'd expect.
