There are several "hands out of the bucket" solutions available in my e-Book "Misers and Their Dreams" in The Wizards' Journal #26. My favorite is a bucket that is held by a spectator while you just make the coins appear from wherever and the spectator collects them, only to have them all vanish while still in his hands.

Ethical amateurs and ethical part time profrssionals don't do that either. I haven't seen Michael Cantor, so I don't know exactly what HE does, but if I had seen him and did know what he does, I certainly would not tell you. I have done the MD for 68 years, and I know or have known most of the pro's. who do/did it. Al Flosso, Ormond McGill, Roy Mayer, Stuart Ross, Neil Foster, Red Friend, all featured it. We shared techniques and ideas. Faucett Ross even passed along tips to me, from T. Nelson Downs. I do know several methods of doing the MD with a bucket that has a handle. I'm not tipping the work to a "magician" (note " ") with your very apparent lack of ethics.

I know it's not exactly what you asked for, but especially for a kids show, Bob Solari's "Miser's Miracle" is a very, very easy method that gives you the ability to show both hands empty at various points, and has a built in 'surprise' ending. You get the kids to count how many coins go in the bucket, then a jumbo coin is produced at the end as a surprise finale.
It's very cheap, the props are great and the method is so easy it lets you totally concentrate on presentation - which of course is the point. I have this, I've done it several times now and it's great. Bob has a video online somewhere and it was reviewed and performed on the Wizard Product review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZy8jT58Gj4 It's the first trick reviewed. If you just want to add the trick, this is a great way to do it in my opinion. |

Here is a link that might help you get "started" http://www.hocus-pocus.com/magicshop/ It's a FREE download called The Misers Drop Zone from Michel Boden. Make the Misers Dream your own (using YOUR style & YOUR personality). While I find the technique to be "interesting" it doesn't fit MY style. Technique is ONE thing, HOWEVER using someone else's style is something entirely different. Re-read Mr. Oslund's post...he is very wise. Do the right thing. All the best Mark

When I was just starting out, the Miser's Dream was one of the things I really, really wanted to learn. I had so many problems with it, due to lack of experience as a performer and lack of dexterity, that I eventually gave it up entirely and focused more on simpler things for a while.
Sad, I know, right? Such a simple effect, and yet so hard for some of us to do when we're just learning it... I finally stumbled across a really simple version in (of all things) a book on ventriloquism! That's right, a one-handed Miser's Dream! Boy, did I work that routine to death! The finale was a bucket full of confetti! As for wanting the lowdown on someone else's technique, have you tried simply asking the guy? If he shares the information with you, you won't have to feel (and look) bad using it, and I've always found that going to the source is the best approach, anyway. If he won't share it with you or sell it to you, I'd just leave it be and stick with more traditional methods.
'Tis an ill wind that blows no minds.
