There's no method disclosed in my post. I'm referring to the name tag that you wear on your jacket that says Hello My Name is...

If this were any other area of publishing (non-magic), there would be serious ramifications. It may sound silly but this is how publishing works. |

I said that I had given the producers the credits. They were accidentally omitted from the DVD. That is not plagiarism. Especially since my trick isn't exactly like any of the other published effects but they inspired various aspects of this effect.
There was nothing underhanded or covert about my actions. It was a simple human error. I have openly stated on this forum and other places what my inspirations were. In fact, Penguin (the producer) has the credits listed on their site: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/4997 I don't get why you are giving me heat for this...

I mean this in kindness and sincerity, not in a mean spirited way.
The item would not have to be exactly the same to be considered plagiarism. The concept is the same as Dan Hauss' effect and the name is even the same. According to you and Penguin, this is one of the inspirations for the effect. So why use the same name? Second, in Booth, Colomb, and Williams' book "The Craft of Research," this is how they describe plagiarism (among other things), "You plagiarize when, intentionally or not, you use someone else's words or ideas but fail to credit that person, leading your readers to think that those are yours." (this is from the 2nd edition, 201-202) By not placing the credits in the publication, intentionally or accidentally, they have committed a form of plagiarism. The reason this is important is that it keeps a publisher from later saying, "Oops! We forgot to include proper citation," when they simply did not include it. I am not saying this is necessarily what Penguin did, but do you see the reasoning? |

I've met Cameron Francis in person at numerous conventions and can vouch for his good character. He's passionate about the art and is only human and so can make the odd mistake. Really nothing to be making such a fuss over.

Hey, guys. It's all good. Mistakes happen. I contacted all of my influences for this effect before its release and they all said it was okay. It was simple human error that they were omitted from the DVD. Penguin has the credits up on their site.
