Never give up. Never surrender. MG and I are staying in this queue to the bitter end.

The Trademarks attached to virtually all of the Sherlock Holmes franchise has meant that this project is a no go I'm afraid.

I said to the bitter end. Current copyright is life+100 years. MG and I fold our arms and sink into our folding lawn chairs out on the pavement, grim determination painting our faces.

These articles from last year had given me more confidence that the project could proceed, as they indicated only the final 10 stories were still protected: https://www.techdirt.com/articles/201505......te.shtml http://www.telegraph.co.uk/film/mr-holme......pyright/ At any rate, what does the future hold for Book-at-Midnight, Dan? I'm sure many Spooky denizens would like to see more sets. I sure would. I think mixing and matching multiple authors/sets of stories will make an already strong effect even stronger. |

Trademark and copyright are two different things, a Trademark protects names, terms and symbols that are used to identify the source. Sherlock Holmes, Dr Watson, The Hound of the Baskervilles etc are all trademarked.
While I'd love to produce a Book at Midnight Doyle set I'm not prepared to tackle the laws surrounding all of his IP. |

Does this clear the path for a Conan Doyle "Book at Midnight" set? |

Maybe I should have said,
"If someone could explain the situation to me like I'm four years old..." While it's still as clear as mud to me as to what would be and what would not be allowed, I'll accept the fact that, for whatever legal reason, a Conan Doyle edition can't be done at this time. I'm sure there are many others like me who'd like to see a new "Book at Midnight" version, though! What about... Brothers Grimm? Shakespeare? Dickens? Jules Verne? HG Wells? (I'm pretty sure all their lawyers must be dead by now) |
