The one you included in your quote with your first question doesn't have an MP3 player inside, just a toy Ray gun. The other two have an MP3 player. The sound effect I have used for those was from a royalty free site. But when you purchase one it will be up to you to find your own sound effect or I can help you create one (for an extra fee). If you are interested in one of the boxes the first one (lighter colour) has been sold. The darker one is still available though. Thanks. 😀 |

Great stuff, Dale! Nice work. My first T-Device was made in 1981 using a Radio Shack experimenter box and the insides of a toy ray gun. All the lights and sound and controls except for the heating source came from the ray gun.
I like the lack of controls and co-ordinate/gps mechanisms, etc. on your box, Dale. To me I like to think that this is a seat of the pants sort of device. You have to aim it REALLY carefully. You can't just dial in vectors. It takes nerve and a steady hand, and a really game spectator... |

Yes it was after watching your new videos that I went looking for a toy ray gun. The only one I found was the one I used which has the spinning lights. A bargain at $5!
My original aim with these devices was to have everything except the igniter run from the same rechargeable USB battery using lights and sound generation that could be easily replaced should something go wrong. However running more than one device from a inexpensive USB battery has proven problematic and the more expensive ones cost a lot more and take up a lot more room. What I want is for these to be simple to work, reliable and easy to repair. Especially as the first one sold is going many thousands of miles away from me. I thnk I have achieved that and can price these affordably while still making it worth my while to do. Next up are two more the same size, one with a plasma light and one with a wind up spinning spiral. |

I also have the ring grinder to beat all ring grinders in production. That's being made to order for a Sydney magician. More bells and whistles on it than I think should be, but he's paying the bill.

Not yet Pop. I've had to move workshops and have been focusing on other things. But I do have one device on the way, should get to finish it in the next few weeks It's a mind reading device of my own invention. It's not gimmicked though, just a prop.

The handling is more complicated out than I expected. Not knuckle busting, just well thought out.

This has gotten put on the back shelf but I would like to bring it out, dust it off and see if it holds water.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am in the process of building for myself, an improved version of Pop Hayden's Teleportation Device called the "Teleportation Transmitter" (not that there is anything wrong with Pop's device). Here is a preliminary drawing of what the device will look like. Please bear in mind that this is all preliminary. I am in the development stage for this custom built device. If you are interested, I can build an additional unit for you. The generic units you see Pop Hayden using and others selling are in the $200-250 range. As you can see, this unit with many more features is going to be retailed at $400-$450 range. (My cost on the sound card alone is $184.) I'm going to introduce it at a special price for $350 (without smoke). I don't have a cost yet on the smoke generator but that would probably add $100 to the price. My version includes a pre-recorded sound module that will play up to 8 sounds of 1 minute in duration, a 25 watt audio amp, a 6" speaker, an LED sequencer for visual display, a flash paper canon or antenna, an optional 2 channel remote for controlling devices from afar, and an optional smoke generator. I didn't want to steal Pop Haydn's routine line for line so came up with this idea based in part to the movie, The Prestige. I want to employ the Fargo Effect and tell them that this is a true story (just to see if it really works). The performance would go something like this: (Preliminary draft of script so excuse me if it is a little rough.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "This is a true story. My grandfather purchase a house in Colorado Springs, Colorado back in 1905 that was previously owned by Nicola Tesla, a genius inventor for his time. I'm sure that many of you know who Tesla was but in case you don't, he invented......... (brief summary of Tesla's inventions) The house passed from my grandfather, to my father, and then eventually to me. When I took possession, it was in very bad shape so I decided to renovate it and use it as my Colorado vacation home. During the renovation, my contractor found a set of plans for some mysterious electronic device, all written in a foreign language, that were apparently drawn by Nicola Tesla and hidden in the walls. I have no idea what they were for or why he would have hidden them or from who. What we do know is that Thomas Edison was after Tesla's inventions and even burned Tesla's lab to the ground. Could that be why the plans were hidden? That remains a mystery even today. I had the plans for years not knowing what they were for. After my retirement of 40 years as an Computer Engineer, I found the plans stored away in my attic from years ago. I got to looking at them closely and became intrigued to say the least. I took the plans to the University of California, Electronic Engineering Department and explained where I got them. They studied them closely and became very excited. They had their Languages Department translate them from Serbian to English and then became even more excited! The plans called the device a "Teleportation Transmitter" but the professors at the University said it looked more like an early version of a Particle Beam Generator. Tesla's involvement is well documented regarding early particle beam generators. I was intrigued with this mysterious device and went to work trying to build a working copy however it was huge and would require hundreds of thousands of dollars to make. So, I applied modern electronics to the design and came up with a miniaturized version of this mysterious device. It has taken me 5 years to finish and I discovered that it has some very mysterious capabilities. Would you like to see it demonstrated for the first time in public here tonight?" (Copyright 2017 by Gary D. Salisbury ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ And into the routine..... During the final phase of the routine, the device overheats, warnings go off, and smoke starts rolling out of it just as it is fired at the egg. My design can use either an antenna (like the original) or a flash paper cannon so a flash can be seen to shoot across the stage at a spectator who would be holding the lemon/egg above his head. I'm playing around with the idea of using a receiver (upside down colander with electronics hidden inside) worn on his head. The Teleportation Transmitter could also have an R/C transmitter that could trigger a separate device with different purposes. Maybe a loud clink when the dollar is transported into the lemon/egg or a flash device, etc. I want to add a bit more comedy to the routine so thinking that making the spectator look funny by wearing a colander and big safety glasses would add to the comedy. Note: My intention is to also give a complimentary copy to Pop as gratitude for sharing his effect if we get this thing going. Please let me know what you think.

It's a beautiful design and idea Gary, but I still think you have the same problems as before. In this day and age it will be difficult to find a venue that allows you to shoot fireballs of any kind, especially in the direction of a volunteer on stage. The beautiful lighting display seems to favour you and not the audience? And while I too have tinkered with more complex set ups (audio and visual) they open up your creation to having more that can go wrong. If you are to sell them this could equate into problems for your customers who can't easily fix issues themselves.

I myself have a new one in the pipeline. It's as simple as can be in many ways but creates a whole new act for the idea. The premise and actions will be essentially along the lines of Mr Haydn's, but the patter is entirely different. Essentially the idea is that I wasn't trying to invent anything but rather was modifying something else with surprising results. I don't want to say too much yet.
Poor health has prevented me from making any more devices or performing much for a while, but I have high hopes for later this year. |

I bought the download awhile back, and finally getting around to building one. Found decent wood box about size of cigar box at Michael’s, a ray gun for sound effects and some switches lights and buzzers at American Science and Surplus (great shop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, now online at https://www.sciplus.com/. If you like odd stuff, check them out...always rotating stock)
Anyways the problem I’m having is the battery. Wired some together for testing and got it to work, but only once. Then Had to replace batteries as they were drained. I don’t think I shorted them out. But thinking I’d like to use a rechargeable battery pack. But not sure what size. Suggestions?

You should have a wiring diagram done (with the load calculations of each device in the circuit) so you know how large of a battery is required before you start soldering parts together. I would be glad to take a look at it if you could send me your wiring diagram and a detailed photograph of what you have done so far. I found that buying the electronics off eBay to be easier and a more rewarding experience than searching all over town for them and buying local.

Lol...if I could cacluate loads and draw diagram, I’d be able to figure it out.
I have sound and light on their one circuit with AA batteries powering them. My problem is the nichrome wire. I think I had too thick gauge and too long of a loop. I shoterned it up. Will take a picture and post this weekend.
