Can I confirm that you don't have the same 'breaking' issues with the internal system, that is inherent with the traditional system?

So, yeah, it's much easier to reassemble in the rare event of a break. (Also, another [related] thing that's nice about this new model: The 'extra' piece does not have the 'secret groove' in it so can be examined super-closely.) Forgot to mention that in my list of improvements... |

Understood Rick. Thanks. So I presume the same gimmick is used in each version? If so do you receive spares?

Yes, same gimmick is used, and yes, you get spare 'fixers' in case the gimmick ever breaks.

Bitcoin = Bite-Out-Coin - Rick, that's genius. Slapping my forehead right now with an "of course!" It's a great gag and a very natural, topical way to get the bite out coin into play. Right up there with the two dollar tip to the parking attendant presentation you came up with recently. Thanks for the great ideas you keep sharing.
BTW, that visual restoration is a perfect illusion that really takes the bite-out coin to the next level. Fools the eye completely.

Yeah, I've been thinking about buying coin magic for a couple months now. Yesterday, I watched Rick's video. And here I am now waiting for delivery from Penguin. Wow.. Wait! What just happened?

I did come up with the visual restoration, though, and, yeah, that 2$ valet idea.. But again, that $2 valet presentation was 'cause this other vegas magician told me he REALLY DID THAT to valet guys when he first moved to town. Couldn't believe it. |

I love Rick's thinking and grab offerings when the appear on Penguin. Today he has an effect called Light Speed. Will be adding that to my list of Rick Lax effects I have. Great job, Rick! Thanks

Hi Rick,
I would like to ask you something. Can I do the coin through bottle trick using your gaffed coin ? Larry Anderson in Jaw Droppers showed several good tricks you can do with an usual folding coin. I hope there's no problem in doing all of these routines using your coin. I am not willing to buy a coin just for a single trick. I like when a material is versatile and can be used in very different ways. By the way, it's out of stock in Penguin Magic. When can I get one ? Thanks. |

It seems Roy Kueppers has developed a "foreverband" elastic that won't deteriorate like the old dental bands. Anyone else order one and got theirs yet? https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/14095 might have to change dropdown to foreverband version

I wonder about this too. Is foreverband just stronger than what people usually use? If you use it a lot, you still need to replace it eventually.

Well, I couldn’t resist so I broke down and ordered one today.
Roy K claims he has developed these bands specifically for this effect and has not repurposed an existing item, and that they should last years if not forever. They look pretty huge so perhaps the groove needs to be deeper so I’m guessing they wouldn’t work in existing gaffs. I’ll report back with my impressions once I’ve had a chance to play with it. |

Well, I see they already took down the one review it got. It was a 1 star review That the person stated it should be called the four-second band instead of forever band. His first band broke after playing around with it for several minutes, he replaced it with the 1 extra they send and he stated that one broke same day. I was waiting for more reviews to come in on it but I will say --- you might want to stay away from it for now. I wasted $25 on it because I really wanted to like this routine since I first bought it when Rick Lax came out with it (but, you know, old bands broke easy so it was never "foolproof" enough). The new video with Nick states that they won't "deteriorate" - that does not say they won't break. He also says replacement bands will be for sale (not true yet according to Penguin). I bring it up (as well as why I was fishing for other reviews) because mine too arrived with a broken band installed and I have not played around much with the replacement yet for fear it will also (because of the now removed review). I did contact Penguin right away and they sent (1) band to replace the broken one. They informed me there are no "extra" bands for sale yet (Roy doesn't list them yet on his site either).
So, to be clear, Penguin took care of it right away for me as always. Their customer service has always been great when I have had ANY problems. My issue is that although the band is a step in the right direction from the old dental bands that deteriorate quickly, they are not there yet. Mine was sent via snail mail in a plain white letter size envelope and took 5 days during the hottest week on record. There are plenty of small smudges and wrinkles on the envelope showing it had seen it's share of sorting machines. This "could" have led to the broken one in the coin but also might not have. I will wait until my replacement comes to play with it some more. Kind of put it thru the "how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop" test. When they were first listed there were only about 30 IIRC and there are like 10 left now so I think the jury will remain out thru this batch and maybe the next just remember 2 things. Penguin has excellent customer service and you have now been warned that forever doesn't mean forever.

Hmm, that’s very interesting and obviously disappointing to hear. TBH though, I think the only reason I’ve ever had a band break is due to deterioration. Roy K really talks this new band up on the video and if it turns out he is looking straight into the camera and lying I will certainly lose all respect for him. This is obviously a test run and we are guinea pigs, but that’s okay, I don’t mind in this case. Penguin probably won’t sell replacement bands until these have proven successful.
I ordered it because I’ve always been happy with Penguin's customer service. If it breaks prematurely or even if I simply decide I don’t like it I will return it for a refund or store credit. Simple as that. Nothing ends up in my “magic drawer” anymore, if I don’t like something it gets sent straight back and into the dealer’s drawer and they can sort it out. |
