Hate laws are tricky things. AFAIK the US has the least restrictive free speech laws in the West, having no "hate speech" provisions (correct me if I'm mistaken). In Canada, we have hate speech provisions, but it has proven very difficult to make a conviction. Many European countries have upheld their hate speech laws. In particular, Holocaust denial and anti-Semitism seem to be the most likely offenses to be successfully prosecuted.
France has been dealing with this for a few decades. From the material posted here, the charges against Dieudonné seem not to be warranted (given my lack of knowledge of French Law). It will be interesting to see what the courts decide.

Calling a religious leader a thug, kam? Gasp!
Back to Charlie Hebdo, all the material I've seen is an attack on politics clothed in Islam. It is true that the use of a goofy caricature identified as the Prophet is provocative; but he's not the object of the satire; modern political/military/terrorist leaders are.

It's provocative because the authors well know that the caricature will be seen as somewhere from offensive to blasphemous by almost all Muslims. I suspect that roughly the same proportion of Mormons find the play Book of Mormon offensive/provocative as Muslims find the Charlie caricatures to be. None (or very close to none) of the offended Mormons, I predict, will seriously consider committing murder over the play.

Charie Hebdo is not after glory it is after religion. Many will die fighting the New World Order.
Moreover their toilet humor is not even sharp.

How about looking at a Pew Research Poll. http://www.pewglobal.org/2014/07/01/conc......mism-10/ Let's see, within different countries, anywhere from 47% down to 3% of muslims believe that suicide bombings can be justified against civilian targets to defend Islam against its enemies. The average being closer to 20%. So, that may only be around 360,000,000 muslims who think that suicide bombings are justified. Really, an infinitesimal number, wouldn't you agree? Let me know when you find a similar poll regarding Mormons and their beliefs about killing innocent civilians. Of course, in France it shouldn't be so bad, right? Oh wait. http://pewresearch.org/files/old-assets/......#page=60 Between 61% and 46% (depending on age), believe suicide bombings can be justified. I know, I know, let's just declare that between 61% and 46% of muslims aren't really muslim! Yeah, that should solve the problem. |

Since we all do bombings on civilian targets to defend against our enemies then so what?
Israel: Why we had no choice but to kill children and bomb hospitals in Gaza. What % of the Jews think, well that is right? USA: Why we had no choice but to torture them! What % of Christian Americans thought that dead right? So what is the point of telling us that a certain % of Muslims think likewise when the boot is on the boot is on the other foot? If the point is to show what hypocrites we are then we are winning two nil.
