This looks great. I am very interested in this for billet work also. Think this would work in a vest/waistcoat?

Here's the final packaging. Business card has web address on the back where the instructional clips are held. The packaging can also hold two Secret Servante units if required. All pre orders have been shipped out.

I got mine today.
Like many of you I'm sure, I've bought my share of holdouts and variants on holders over the years. So I know only too well the trepidation that the arrival of such a package brings with it; as you open it to discover you've parted with $30 you'll never recover for a rubber band and a loop of nylon gut. No such fears with this, that arrived at my door direct from Sean. On opening the package you find a reassuringly solid, printed box that shrieks how committed the originator is. Open the box and you find - The Gimmick. Now, it is capable of being home-made, so I rather fear for Sean that the knock-offs will start to appear before long. Because, although it's early days, this could become a standard - a minor classic. That said, I would struggle to make a gimmick as neat and well-put-together as this. It does one thing, and does it very well - and imperceptibly. I've only had chance to play with it for an hour or so, but I'm already delighted with how neatly and naturally you can hold out small items with it. I'm looking forward to exploring its possibilities and applications. The instructions are a password-protected online set of videos - again, the threat of rip-off looms, I fear. Sean is a good teacher; he gives the mechanics and applications in good detail, but not to the point of tedium. You quickly get the impression that he has lived with this for a long while. He describes the application of rings, coins, and folded cards, and suggests other applications as well. I can't understand how a purchaser who knows what they're buying - some form of hold-out/holder for small objects - could be disappointed in this. Unless, perhaps, they love props for the purpose of collecting engineered brass artefacts. This is a practical tool that, as many have already observed, you'll carry on you always. Limitations? Well, it is best suited for a jacket, but a shirt [not tucked in] would take the gimmick too. Sean has put some fine products on the market - I think I now have them all, and there's not a dud among them. He is, as is clear from all his product range, a working pro who uses his own stuff. I've had the pleasure of spending an hour discussing his products with him in the past, and he is generous in his advice: creative and practical in this thinking. If you want to extend the possibilities of this beyond the obvious, Ed Mishell's Hold-Out Miracles is an old book of Tannen's that has some great ideas. So there's nothing stopping you getting this - especially at the asking price, which is fair for what it achieves. In fact Sean could have inched the asking price up by 5 or 10 GBP, so this looks a bargain to me. Nice one, Sean. |

To answer MDantes:
It could perhaps work with a waistcoat (or vest as our transatlantic cousins bewilderingly call it) - as long as it is quite loose-fitting. You have to have some play in it to make it work without fumbling. It also depends on your build and frame! Think of a ball holder but thinner to give you the gist of it. So I'd be wary of endorsing its use unequivocally (no, not Magician's Choice) with a vest (ugh) without trying it first. |

I agree with every word you said, Bob. Great review.
And when people ask about vests, I can't help but think of this: |

I don't perfom in a waistcoat but Richard Pinner does. He's the Magic Circle Stage Magician of the year and also an excellent close upper. He saw Nick Einhorn using SS and then ordered two units. He kindly let me share his words:
"It's so intuitive I used it on Saturday and Sunday nights in reception. Did you know it works really well with a waistcoat? (My preferred close up costume is waistcoat with shirt sleeves rolled up) It is brilliant. Possibly the most important gimmick so far this century. Rajan got fed up with me telling home how good it is I'm taking one of mine in to TMC tonight so he doesn't have to wait for Nick's to arrive!" Nice words!

Great product. The design is well thought out and seems to address any of the possible issues.
Easy to install and adjust. Easily transferable. Holds items in place when loaded to reduce noise and movement. Easy load and retrieval. Excellent value. Concise on line instructions. I would say Sean hit this one out of the park. Anything that makes your magic cleaner, is so well worth the price of admission. Close the polls, trick of the year. |

This reminds me of the prop John Calvert used in his cigarette production act where Tammy gathered the cigarettes in a bowl. He once let me have a closer look at it and it was a small wonder of functionality. I think he could load up to 20 cigarettes in it and he could play the routine for a small party or for an audience of thousands. I don't know if he ever used it for vanishes. I have not seen the Secret Servante but the principles at work are probably similar.
If you want inspiration how to work a prop like this study his routine. He did the load fifteen to twenty times in a row standing on the stage and walking around among the audience creating misdirection for every steal.

Can anyone advise on how many £2 coins the secret servante will hold? I tend not to use US currency in any routine if I can help it.
Thanks |

Hi Stellan. Johns routine sounds great. Can I assure you that I havent seen this, and on the explanation clips I quickly run through how I developed SS. As far as I'm aware this is a totally new design which is aimed at the close up worker.

You can fit two units and hence have more options too

Hi Sean. I can assure you that my comment was not intended to cast a shadow over your work. On the contrary, my aim was to support your prop and provide an inspiration to what is possible to do with a thing like that. His could only load cigarettes, which is not the best thing to produce these days. I think someone had to design this.
By the way, you really should look at his performance. He did it in every show. You will probably find it on youtube. I got one recording from Jeff Hobson not so long ago. You could try his site. (I had to look at it again. It is stellar and a masterpiece. Not many of us have a routine with so much magic beauty in it. He did it until after he was 100 years old!)

I have also discovered that SS serves nicely as a sponge ball holder - just pop them between the two sides of the gimmick. Other large items (e.g., jumbo coin) could also be held there with some simple modification. Mike |
