If Solari made them they are probably medium quality, if that picture is of the correct cups and not a subsitute photo. They look okay. I know if brass is not spun correctly it will develop splits and cracks. Currently, there are so many C&B on the market it is very comfusing.

Never in the history of magic has there been so many cups produced at one time. I could get the cheap $15 dollar cups when I entered magic 50 years ago I would have been very satisfied with them. The are aluminum and get the job done. If they get dented or lost or stolen who cares just buy another set.

You get what you pay for, there is difference between a $50 and a $300 set. Computer turned and hand turned by a craftsman.

Your decision, they all get the job done.

Well, Flo...

If you want to save a little money, and still get a pretty set of cups & balls, may I suggest looking here:

http://www.morrisseymagic.com/morrissey_closeup1.htm

I love mine...they still look new after all these years. They also (off topic) make a beautiful Zombie Ball (5-inch)...not bad for $22...

The Chop Cup Combination Cups & Balls includes part of the Mendoza routine...Let us know what you think, Flo!

I agree with Doug I have a set of Morrissey Cups and they are good quality and look great. I also own the chop cup which is also a nice piece. After you get the cups get Ammars video tapes on the cups and balls, it's a wealth of information.

For a beginner , you don't need to invest in penguins 100 dollar cups. just use some nice opaque ones form around the house Smile

If you enjoy the cups, you will actually save money by buying a nice set now. The Bazar de Magica set is available in brass or copper and retails around $50. They are a good weight and handle well. My only objection is the height. My first set of penguins was sent back. They were dented, and two cups had terrible tops. The second set I received (3 weeks after they received my priority package) were much better quality. Only one of the cups was in need of work. Rather than sending them back again, I am hand polishing out the defects with fine steel wool. On the positive side, I love how they handle. Once they tarnish, they will be my workers for close up. I just received a set of Gazzo respins from Gary Knights http://www.magicpitch.com for pennies on the dollar. If you want a large set of cups, this deal is too good to pass up. The work is absolutly beautiful. You won't find this price on a large set of quality cups for a long time. This is my 6th set, and my favorite.

I just got the Brass Bazar De Magia cups, they're the greatest. (Well, in that price range anyway. About 45 bucks, not bad at all).

I agree that the Baza De Magia brass cups are a good deal for $40-45. Here's another good source to consider: http://themagicwarehouse.com/closeup4.html#mb2834
If that's too much for your wallet, you can get the same cups in aluminum for about half that price. They are a bit lighter but still very serviceable.

The Bazar sets include 1" crocheted balls. If you have small hands, these may be a bit too large to handle comfortably. You can also get a set of 3/4" crocheted balls for about $5. It's probably worth it to have both sizes and experiment.

If you are a beginner, I also STRONGLY suggest that you get either Michael Ammar's book ($40) or his two DVD's ($65) on the Cups & Balls. See http://themagicwarehouse.com/vidge2.html#v29056 It contains every move you could ever imagine and some you would never imagine, all well explained and ilustrated. There are also chapters on misdirection, sleights, final loads, routining and more. This is a great investment, and probably more important than whatever cups you buy.

Good Luck and enjoy the Cups & Balls. SETH
