It's that time of the year again! On behalf of Tim Deremer, I'd like to announce the line up for the 2015 International Battle of Magicians! And boy what a line up we have this year. Max Maven, Shin Lim, Oscar Munoz and many other great and talented performers! You may register at www.battleofmagicians.com
MAX MAVEN (Hollywood) Orson Welles said, “Max Maven has the most original mind in magic”. Fortuitously, Orson died before he could change his opinion! Listen to what others say: The New York Times said that Max’s “category-defying mind-reading show veers into conceptual art”. The Los Angeles Times stated that his “improvisational skill is enhanced by a charismatic animal magnetism”. (Even Max admits he doesn’t know exactly what that means!) Apparently audiences in over three dozen countries agree, as Max Maven’s mysteries transcend linguistic and cultural barriers. His television credits in the U.S. include such diverse shows as General Hospital and Top Chef Masters. His credits from around the world are too numerous to mention, so we won’t even try. Prepare to be mystified by this master of mentalism through his phantasmagorical lecture and his featured performance on the ‘Friday Night All Star Extravaganza’. SCOTT ALEXANDER (Pennsylvania) Scott Alexander is a very funny and likeable guy. He reached millions on season 6 of NBC’s ‘America’s Got Talent’ where he advanced while performing his large stage illusions. After articles about him appeared in People’s Magazine and Nations Business Magazine, the Oprah Show took notice and invited Scott to appear on Oprah’s popular television program. Scott headlined at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas for over seven years with over four thousand performances. (He must be really tired!) Scott’s magic has been featured on the SyFy Channel, Discovery Channel, NBC and Showtime. He has opened for comedians such as Dennis Miller and his magic creations have been used by magic luminaries such as Penn and Teller. You can see this exciting performer on the ‘Palace Theatre Headliner Show’ as well as his combined lecture with Puck. PUCK (Pennsylvania) Puck began his career specializing in magic with doves, parakeets and a parrot named ‘Hoppy’. His act took him around the world and on the way he won several awards including First Place at the ‘World Magic Summit’ held in our nation’s capital. He has been featured in such venues as ‘The City Hall Theater’ in Hamilton, Bermuda and the ‘Magic and Mischief Theater’ in Orlando, Florida. He performs often on the high seas (hopefully on a cruise ship) and is a regular performer at the world famous ‘Magic Castle’ in Hollywood, and ‘Monday Night Magic’, New York’s longest running magic show. Puck enjoys performing his special brand of magic. You’re going to enjoy watching this wonderful entertainer on the ‘Palace Theatre Headliner Show’ and the ‘Grand Close-up Show’. Puck will also join his buddy Scott Alexander for a combined lecture. CHARLES PEACHOCK (Kent) Two time ‘Gold Medalist’ and ‘World Champion Juggler’, Charles Peachock has broken traditional barriers (and probably a pile of plates!) by moving juggling from the circus arena to theater venues around the world. He holds a prestigious record of having more appearances on America’s Got Talent than any other juggler! He says it was the sixteen years of weekly theatrical performances that led to his international acclaim, world records, and flawless moves. We think it was the first 13 years of performances in his back yard! Charles has gained respect as the world’s leading technical and innovative juggler with his artistic routines, original concepts, one of a kind props and comedy timing. Charles will be a big hit on the ‘Palace Theatre Headliner Show’. SHIN LIM (Boston) A truly international performer, Shin Lim has roots in Canada & Singapore, and now lives in Boston. A simple card trick shown to him by his older brother, ignited a passion and drive to excel in magic in the then 16 year old Shin. In the span of only 4 years, Shin has done just that. He won the ‘World Teenage Close-up Magic Championship’ in Las Vegas at the 2010 ‘World Magic Seminar’. He also won the ‘FISM-North American Grand Champion of Close-up Magic’ in 2014. We are excited to have him on this year’s ‘International Battle of Magicians’ ‘Friday Night All Star Extravaganza’. Shin will also bring his exciting new lecture to the ‘Battle’. You won’t want to miss this amazing young talent. OSCAR MUNOZ (Texas) If you are looking for an award-winning magic act, then Oscar is your man. In addition to winning the ‘TAOM Championship’ three times, he also brought home the ‘IBM Gold Cup Championship’ and the ‘SAM First Place Gold Medal.’ Oscar has earned a ‘Doctorate in Magic’ from the ‘FFFF Fraternity’ in Batavia, NY, and just recently he became the first American to ever receive the ‘International Children’s Entertainer Championship’ held in Blackpool, England. His 27 years of experience as a professional motivator, speaker and master comedy magician, plus numerous television appearances and lecture dates all over the world, will make Oscar a big hit at this year’s ‘Battle’. (The Academy Awards even named a statue after him.) Oscar will be appearing everywhere this weekend... you’ll be inspired by his lecture and perplexed by his performances on the ‘Palace Theatre Headliner Show’ and the ‘Grand Close-up Show’. JOHN FERRENTINO (Florida) Born and bred in Long Island, John now calls Meritt Island, Florida his home. This comedian has been one of the most innovative forces on both the comedy and magic scenes for the last four decades. With an impressive list of 47 television appearances, you may have seen him on ‘Evening at the Improv’, MTV, Showtime, VH-1, and QVC. John made 21 appearances on Fox’s ‘Comic Strip Live’ and found himself on Howard Stern over 100 times. Finally, Howard said, “Would you PLEASE get off of me?” For ten years, he toured as the opening act for Crosby Stills and Nash. John refers to himself as “the best comic/magician $29.95 can buy”, but we think he’s worth twice that! At this year’s ‘Battle’ you’ll see John on the ‘Palace Theatre Headliner Show’ and you’ll learn a ton at his combined lecture with Joe Silkie. JOE SILKIE (New York City) If you look up ‘creative’ in the dictionary you might see a photo of Joe. He has been a creator of magical effects and a prop builder for almost 35 years. Whether he’s developing a specific prop, or creating a complete show, Joe has brought his unique knowledge of magic and art together to develop some amazing original effects. For over twenty five years, Joe and longtime friend John Ferrentino have released unique effects through their company ‘Spooky Stuff Limited’. Theirs was one of the first magic companies to sell products online. Joe has also been a magic creator and co-producer on all 47 of John Ferrentino’s television appearances. We’re excited to have Joe perform on the ‘Friday Night All Star Extravaganza’ and also lecture with John. STUART MACDONALD (Michigan) By the time Stuart had entered high school, he was competing in and winning talent competitions all over the United States. He won the SAM national competition in 1982 and was awarded the ‘Chavez Cup’ for manipulation. Stuart ended the competitive phase of his career after competing in the ‘World Championships of Magic’ in Madrid, Spain. After that competition he was signed by the Kramer International Talent Agency and dominated the college market for 15 years. Getting the itch to compete again, Stuart applied some calamine lotion and revised his act nearly180 degrees. He went on to receive a near perfect score and ‘The Best of the Convention Award’ at the TAOM in Fort Worth Texas. You are in for a treat when you see Stuart McDonald at this year’s ‘International Battle of Magicians’ ‘Friday Night All Star Extravaganza’. BARRY MITCHELL (Tennessee)Barry Mitchell is the ‘Entertaining Encourager’. Thousands of audiences from coast to coast have laughed with Barry. He has performed in countless theaters and comedy shows from the streets of New Orleans’ French Quarter to sharing the stage with country music stars. Barry was the featured comedian at ‘Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede’. He is the author of five books including the popular ‘Magic of Thinking Creatively’. Barry lectures regularly on marketing and showmanship and also invents and markets original magic effects for performers around the world. After beginning his career at the ‘Magic Castle’ in Hollywood and the ‘Magic Circle’ in London, Barry can now add the prestigious Battle of Magicians to his resume! You’ll love his new lecture and his performance on the ‘Friday Night All Star Extravaganza’. GARY MORTON (Leavittsburg) This award-winning magical entertainer has been mystifying audiences with magic and illusion for over 25 years. Gary stays busy performing professionally across the country at everything from private parties to large corporate events. He specializes in classic magic effects which contain a high degree of comical entertainment with interactive audience participation. Gary studied acting at the ‘Tony Barr Film Actors Workshop’ in North Hollywood and has appeared on such shows as Cheers, Night Court, The A-Team, Moonlighting and Beverly Hills Cop 2. Gary will act as M.C. for our ‘Friday Night All Star Extravaganza’ and he will also perform on the ‘Grand Close-up Show’. In addition to being an outstanding entertainer, Gary is also one of the nicest guys in the business. (At least that’s what he says!) We guarantee you’re gonna love him! |
