I am interested in seeing the DWFB in action, and I've heard that DC does it. Does anyone know where I can find a video clip of this, or is there anyone else out there that does this that has a video of them doing it? Thanks all, and have a good night.

Very old, I must have been 10 when I saw that. Lonnie Anderson was watching from a few yards away. CBS or NBC special (all rights reserved), I doubt your ging to find a video of that, unless someone has a private copy.

It was way before that. Alcatraz was his Ninth Special. He did the floating ball in 1980 on his second special. It was redesigned to resemble a disco mirror ball in a ballroom scene.
My tape is pretty distorted during that piece...the audio anyway. If you want a more modern idea of the same movements allowed, watch Lance Burton do his floating birdcage. Somewhere around here, I have a couple of the Don Wayne balls. I had one for a back-up. I will try to find them. Michael |

Henning did the DWFB as well on a special.
Brad The Burton hookup predates the Don Wayne method by MANY years so I don't know if "more modern" is the phrase to use. Burton's work is that of Okito and can be found in print in the Hull manuscript. In the Wayne method the performer is offered more freedon. |

On one TV special, Henning actually did use a lit candle. In Hennings live shows, the ball he used was an Owen Floating Ball. The Coppefield special this was on was I think was his third one, it's on the Ferrari levitation special. He floated a Mirror Ball. The Don Wayne hook up requires quite a bit of backstage space to work. If you're a solo performer, the best hook up is the Okito method. The hook up that Henning used is the most effective as the ball travels all over the stage and can go very high. I also prefer this method as it gives the performer ultimate control over the ball. The Okito method gives you control, but your movements are limited. If I find the source for Henning's method, I will post it here. |

I have a copy of Copperfield's "Escape From Alcatraz"... On eBay, you can find VCD's of Copperfield fairly cheap. They include many other specials such as Great Wall of China, Floating over the Grand Canyon (with that awsome music video "I need a hero.....CLASSIC!), and even Bermuda Triangle. I am looking for the complete special that DC performs Elevator...if anyone has it, please PM me....

I had an idea about 10 years ago when I was in college to try and use motors and timers to automate this effect. I did the effect with assistants but it was very troublesome and took a lot of rehearsal. Some day when I have a few hundred hours I'm going to sit down and figure out how to automate that.
